How can I get rid of weeds?
Weeds are likely poking through in the garden beds, even if you put down fabric liner or mulch to keep them at bay. Pull weeds from the root in edible flower or vegetable gardens, and dig up the roots if the weed snapped off without them. Be sure to get rid of weeds before the weeds' flowers dry out and and drop their seeds. If you'd like to treat weeds with weed killer, check that it's safe for bees, other pollinators, and pets — and wear a respirator mask and heavy rubber gloves to ensure that it doesn't touch your skin or your lungs.
Is my lawn dead?
It could be, but it's also likely napping during those soaring temps. Cool-season grass goes dormant in the summer. It turns crispy brown but isn't usually dead. You can check to verify though: If you can easily pull out a blade of grass with no resistance, it's time to plant new sod or grass seed because the grass is a goner. Water dormant lawns deeply and infrequently. Warm-season grass needs water every few days in the summer. It should stay green if it's healthy.
Why should I use vertical gardening at home?
As the veggies and plants grow, keeping your harvest healthy is easier. You can see evidence of wildlife or other pests eating your produce and act accordingly. When your fruits and vegetables mature and are ready to pick, you'll see them immediately, so you can enjoy them at peak freshness. If these same plants grow along the ground, you may miss your harvest under the shadowy leaves. Supporting the plants as they grow upright means your upkeep will be less overwhelming when you harvest your garden veggies.
How do I keep my garden healthy?

Only apply as often as directed on the packaging. More is not better here. Be sure to water immediately after, as directed, so the fertilizer won't burn the plants.

If you have sturdy structures like a shed or house, create shade by attaching sun sails and awnings. However, sometimes shade isn't enough because it's extremely humid out. Lawn Repair and Patching
Scorched, or burnt, grass has an oddly shaped discolored patch that looks yellow. It happens when metal or plastic sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight or a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn. You'll often find it once you move something sitting out in the yard, like a sprinkler. Car mirrors or windows can also scorch grass when the sun angle is right.
Water scorched grass well and wait a week. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it's damaged by pet urine or otherwise unsalvageable, you'll need to use patch and repair seed to fix it up or replace the grass.
Whether you're doing upkeep on your current lawn or patching the sparse spots, keep in mind which type of grass it is. Match the grass type to how much sun your lawn gets — or to the existing grass type if you're doing patch repair. For example, if your lawn gets full sun, make sure you plant grass that thrives in the sunlight instead of shade-happy grass.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
You'll need to water your garden to keep it alive between rainstorms. A general rule when watering plants and flowers is to aim the water at the roots. A sprinkler, drip irrigation system, or garden hose will work well. The blooms themselves don't need to be watered or even misted. Many flowers wilt when but recover when they dry. Trees are a natural source of shade, and they can change the look of your yard. Whether you plant a few trees or a forest, keep in mind this is a long-term commitment. When they're healthy, trees live many decades — and some for hundreds of years. Before you shop, look into how to plant a tree, whether they're deciduous trees, evergreen saplings, or more mature trees.

Consider the full-grown size of the trees you want, how far the root ball extends outward and how deep the taproots go. Plant your trees far from water pipes, as their strong roots will seek water and curl into piping to get it. A tree with a full canopy of leaves catches wind like a sail, so make sure it's planted a safe distance from your home. If you've planned accordingly, found trees you love, and know the best places to put them, get planting. That way, you can enjoy the leaves rustling in the breeze and dappled shade sooner rather than later.
