How do I fix burnt grass?
The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is simple: Fix the burnt spot with a good long drink. Just rehydrate those roots. It should perk up within a week. If you have sturdy structures like a shed or house, make your own shade by attaching shade sails and awnings. However, sometimes shade isn't enough because it's just too humid. That's when a patio mister or misting fan can help cool the air and make a stifling afternoon into a relaxing day. Go back to swinging in a hammock when that water-cooled air is ready.

Grow a Healthy Lawn
If you're concerned that your lawn has brown blades of grass, don't worry just yet. It's possible that you've got a cool season grass that basically goes to sleep and turns brown in the heat of the summer. If that's the case, it'll be an overall shade of brown, but not green with brown patches. Gently tug out a blade of grass to check the roots: If it comes right out, the grass is probably dead and you'll need to replace it with sod or grass seed. If it doesn't pull right out, it's dormant. That means it's resting but still alive underground. Dormant grass should be watered deeply once or twice a week but don't fertilize it.
Warm-season grass stays green in the summer. If you have this kind of lawn, water it deeply once a week. Give it another drink every day or two, depending on your weather. Make sure not to overwater, and let the lawn dry out after heavy rains before you get out the sprinkler or garden hose again. If it's especially hot out, water when the top two inches of soil is dry to the touch. It's ok to let the grass grow a little taller this time of the year, as cutting your lawn too short isn't healthy for it.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
You'll need to water your garden to keep it alive between rainstorms. A general rule when watering plants is to aim the water at the roots. A garden hose, sprinkler, or drip irrigation system will work well. The blooms themselves don't need to be watered or even misted. Many flowers droop when wet, but they'll recover just fine once they dry. Succulents are, of course, the exception to basic watering rules, so look up your specific types of succulents to optimize their care.

Grow Your Own Herbs
For savory flavors to accent your homegrown produce, add herbs. It's easy to learn how to grow herbs indoors, but you can raise herbs outdoors, too. If you grow herbs outdoors, stick to heat-loving herbs that'll endure the summer temperatures, and consider a hanging herb garden.
Planting herbs in the ground can be tricky, as many of them — especially mint — are invasive and will take over your yard. So just keep them in small decorative pots on a sunny porch, window sill, or even in wall planters. Herbs also work well in a hydroponic garden, which means they don't grow in regular black dirt. Instead, they grow in a mixture of sand, rock chips, or perlite.
Trees as Natural Shade
Trees are a natural source of shade, They can change the look of your yard. Whether you plant a few trees as accents, a few more to bear fruit, or a whole mini-forest, remember this is a long-term commitment. When they're healthy, trees live many decades — and some for hundreds of years. Before you shop, plan so you know how to plant a tree, whether they're deciduous trees, evergreen saplings, or more mature trees.
A house framed by beautiful trees can seem picture-perfect, but research the specific trees you want before planting them. Consider how deep the taproots go, how far the roots extend outward, and the full-grown size of the trees. Plant your trees far from water pipes, as their strong roots will seek water and curl into piping to get it. Leave a safe distance from your home, as large trees can catch the wind if not properly pruned. If you've planned accordingly, found trees you love, and know the best places to put them, get planting. That way, you can enjoy the leaves rustling in the breeze and dappled shade sooner rather than later.
