How do I treat weeds?
Weeds are likely poking through in the garden beds, even if you put down mulch to keep them at bay. Pull weeds from the root in gardens you'll be eating from, and dig up the roots if the weed snapped off without them. Be sure to get rid of weeds before they go to seed. If you'd like to treat weeds with weed killer, check that it's safe for bees, other pollinators, and pets — and wear a respirator mask and heavy-duty rubber gloves to ensure that it doesn't touch your skin or your lungs.
Is brown grass dead?
It could be, but it's also likely napping during those soaring temps. Cool-season grass goes dormant in the summer. It turns crispy and brown but isn't usually dead. You can check though: If you can easily pull out a blade of grass with no resistance, it's time to plant new sod or grass seed because the grass is a goner. Water dormant lawns deeply but not often. Warm-season lawns need water every few days in the summer. Those lawns stay green if they're healthy.

You'll want to consider how to keep things cool with proper tending and irrigation. Just like we can get sunburned, grass and perennials can get scorched, and trees can lose their leaves prematurely. Lawn Repair and Patching
Scorched, or burnt, grass has a distinctively shaped discoloration that looks yellow. It happens when metal or plastic sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight or a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn. You'll usually find it once you move something sitting out in the yard, like a garden hose. Car windows or mirrors can also scorch grass when the sun angle is just right.
Water burnt grass well and wait a week or so. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it needs neutralizing after urine damage, you'll need to use patch and repair seed to fix it up or replace the grass.
Whether you're patching a lawn or doing upkeep on your current one, keep in mind which type of grass it is. Match the kind of grass to how much sun your lawn gets — or to the existing grass type if you're doing patch repair. For example, if your lawn is shaded by trees and gets dappled sun or partial shade, make sure you plant sod that prefers shade.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
You'll need to water your garden between rainstorms to keep the summer flowering going. A general rule when watering plants is to aim the water at the roots. A garden hose, sprinkler, or drip irrigation system can get the job done. You don't need to water or even mist the blooms themselves. Many flowers droop when they get wet, but they'll recover just fine when they dry off. Succulents are an exception to basic watering rules, so look up your specific types of succulents to optimize their care.

Vertical Vegetable Gardening

The key to success is supporting the branches, fruit, and stem. This is so the weight of the plant doesn't snap the stem or branches.
Fasten your plant to a pole, fence, or trellis with string, plant ties and wires, garden wire, or fabric strips. Be sure to tie each plant loosely. Then the stem has room to grow wider and the branches and leaves can sway in the breeze. Strawberries, tomatoes, squash, canteloupe and cucumbers need support as they bear fruit. Melons and squash require hammocks made of string, old nylons, a sling, or other stretchy fabric to support the weighty produce. All of these plants take up less space on the ground this way, which allows you to have walking room in between plants or fit even more of them.
Vines as Decorative Shade
Plant vines near a trellis or arched arbor so they'll climb the structure and give you both beauty and shade. Viney plants that are native to your area are a good choice for success and attract pollinators. Wisteria, jasmine, and ivy are common options for creating a shady and beautiful archway or pathway. Remember to match your vine plants to how much sun you receive, as some like full sun and others don't. As a bonus, many vines put out sweet-smelling flowers with a delightful fragrance you can enjoy as you cool off in the shade.
