How do I fix scorched grass?
You'll need to rehydrate those roots. The solution for how to get burnt grass green again is easy: Fix the scorched spot with a good drink, then continue to water it regularly. It should perk up within a week. The method for how to treat grass from dog urine isn't as straightforward. Grass damaged by pets must be removed, neutralized, and replaced in fresh soil with new sod, or patch and repair grass seed.
When's the best time to water plants?
Ideally, water early in the morning. The next best time is in the evening, when the sun is past its peak. Lawn Repair and Patching
Scorched, or burnt, grass has an oddly shaped discoloration that isn't green. It happens when a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn or metal or plastic sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight. You'll discover it once you move something sitting out in the yard, like a sprinkler. Car windows or mirrors can also scorch grass when the sun angle is right.
Water burnt grass well and wait a week or so. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it needs neutralizing after urine damage, you'll need to replace the grass or use patch and repair seed to fix it up.
Whether you're patching a lawn or doing upkeep on your current one, keep in mind which type of grass it is. Match the kind of grass to how much sun your lawn gets — or to the existing grass type if you're doing patch repair. For example, if buildings shade your lawn so it gets dappled sun or partial shade, make sure you plant grass that's not meant for full sun.
Watch Your Garden Thrive
Water your garden between rainstorms to keep the summer flowering going. A general rule when watering plants is to aim the water at the roots. A drip irrigation system, sprinkler, or garden hose will do the job. You don't need to water or even mist the blossoms themselves. So just keep them in small decorative pots on a sunny window sill, porch, or even in wall planters. Herbs also work well in a hydroponic garden, which means they don't grow in regular black dirt. Instead, they grow in a mix of rock chips, perlite, or sand.
Vines as Decorative Shade
Set up vines to climb a trellis or arched arbor to provide both beauty and shade. Vines that are native to your area are a good choice for success and attract bees and other pollinators. Grape vines are a classic choice, but they take time to mature, so you'll only be enjoying shade and not fruit for a few years. Remember to match your vine plants to how much sunshine you receive, as not all of them thrive in full sun.
