What are good ways to get rid of weeds?
Weeds are likely poking through in the garden beds, even if you put down mulch to keep them at bay. Be sure to get rid of weeds before the weeds' flowers dry out and and drop their seeds. Pull out weeds from the root in vegetable or edible flower gardens, and dig up the roots if the weed snapped off without them. If you'd like to treat weeds with weed killer, check that it's safe for bees, other pollinators, and pets — and wear a respirator mask and heavy rubber gloves to ensure that it doesn't touch your lungs or skin.
Is my yard dead?
It could be, but it's also likely napping during those soaring summer temps. Cool-season grass goes dormant in the summer. It turns brown and crispy but isn't usually dead. You can check to verify though: If you tug on a grass blade and it pulls right out, it's time to plant new seed or sod because the grass is a goner. Water dormant lawns deeply but not often. Warm-season lawns need water every few days in the summer. Those lawns stay green if they're healthy.
When's the best time to water my vegetable garden?
If you can water during the early morning or in the evening, that's ideal. A noon or mid-day watering will evaporate quickly, so come back with an evening watering if possible. This applies to whatever you're growing: plants, grass, bushes, and vegetables. Give all the plants a thorough drink. The plants still need hydration regardless of the time. Depending on your climate, grass type, and lawn health, you may also want to look into applying an organic lawn fertilizer.
When do I fertilize my veggie plants?
After you've planted your flowers or plants, make sure they stay well-fed and hydrated. Choose an organic or a synthetic fertilizer that fits your needs and give your garden a boost. As the calendar turns to summer, your landscaping and garden will weather more intense heat and UV rays than earlier in the year. That means you'll want to consider how to keep things cool. You might also need ways to beat the heat. We've got guidance to make it through the hotter months.
Lawn Repair and Patching
Scorched, or burnt, grass has a distinctively shaped discoloration that looks yellow. It happens when plastic or metal sits on the grass and bakes in the sunlight or a reflective surface shines continuously on your lawn. You'll discover it once you disturb something that's been sitting out in the yard, like a garden hose. Car windows or mirrors can also scorch grass when the sun angle is right.
Water scorched grass well and wait a week or so. You should see the signs of life returning by then. If it's damaged by pet urine or otherwise unsalvageable, you'll need to replace the grass or use patch and repair seed to fix it up.
Whether you're patching a lawn or doing upkeep on your current one, keep in mind which type of grass it is. Match the kind of grass to your lawn if you're doing patch repair. When planting new grass, choose a variety that works with the amount of sun your lawn gets. Vertical Edible Gardening

Fasten the plant to a fence, trellis, or pole with string, plant ties and wires, garden wire, or fabric strips. Be sure to tie each plant loosely. Then the stem has room to grow wider and the branches and leaves can sway in the breeze. Strawberries, tomatoes, squash, cantaloupe and cucumbers need support as they bear fruit. Squash and melons require hammocks made of string, old nylons, a sling, or other stretchy fabric to support the weighty produce. These plants take up less space on the ground when grown vertically, which allows you to have walking room in between plants or fit even more of them.

Trees are a natural source of shade, and they can change the look of your yard. Whether you plant a few trees as accents, a few more to bear fruit, or a whole mini-forest, remember this is a long-term commitment. When they're healthy, trees live many decades — and some for hundreds of years. Before you shop, read up on how to plant a tree, whether they're deciduous trees, evergreen saplings, or more mature trees.
A house framed by beautiful trees can seem picture-perfect, but research the specific trees you want before planting them. Consider how deep the taproots go, how far the root ball extends outward, and the full-grown size of the trees you want. Plant your trees far from water pipes, as their strong roots will seek water and wend into piping to get it. As majestic as trees are, it's essential to also consider how and where they'd fall if a significant storm or disease weakened them. If you've planned accordingly, found trees you love, and know the perfect places to put them, get planting. That way, you can enjoy the leaves rustling in the breeze and dappled shade sooner rather than later.
