The Stainless King of Disposals
I have mixed feelings about this model. I have had several of the 1/3 HP models in my homes for the past 20 years and only had to replace one that leaked after 8 years. For home use, the 1/3 HP models have been fine for me, and the replacement costs have been less than 70 dollars each. The 1 HP Stainless model is twice as heavy, has 3 times the power and costs 5 times as much. It is rated for continuous use, but I only have a few parties a year where I might use it more than usual. an in-home replacement warranty for seven years, but you have to pay for the first install or do it yourself. I love the universal mounting rings. It has made each installation almost painless. For a noise test, I got a sound level meter to actually compare this model to the standard 1/3 HP model, and the 1 HP ran at 60 decibels and the 1/3 HP ran at 68 db. I may invest in this model for my retirement home, as it should never wear out from normal use, but the investment is questionable based on my experience with the lower end models working so well for so long. Also, for the price, they should throw in the optional twelve dollar power cable. If you need stainless, or have a very large family, then this may be worth the long term investment. Think about it this way, you would be paying less than 50 dollars a year for seven years for this model. However, I have had 1/3 HP models last 10 years and that worked out to less then 7 dollars a year. Do you really need the extra power? And will you need to use it continuously? If the answers are yes, then I would recommend this model without reservation. The InSinkErator brand is an icon like Maytag, they just keep running.
