2 D-I-Y homeowners built sold stairs w/no help
Converted our 2 family into a single family home by building stairs between the two levels. Took a bit of figuring, but I can't imagine how lost we would have been without these. The hardest part of the whole project was doing the calculations. Especially because due to space considerations we had to build with two 90 degree turns/landings. Best advice for building with any angles was to actually draw out exactly where you want things to end up - we "drew" our planned steps on the floor with ... read more masking tape. Our stairs are VERY solid.

EZ stairs bracket set was well manufactured and relatively easy to install.
The instructions were good and included a DVD as well as written instructions. I found it difficult to find the type of screws that they recommend (#8 flathead wood screws, coated or stainless steel for use with pressure treated lumber). I suggest that Home Depot sell them with the bracket set or have a link to that product so that it is easier to find the correct screws.

    Excellent product
I used EZ Stairs to build deck stairs with 112 inch total rise. The only negative issues was that I focused on getting the cleats square without recognizing that they could be square at more than one position. The result was that I had to redo my work. Once I paid careful attention to the instructions, every thing came together great. Especially for someone who only occasionally builds stairs, this is the way to go.

Good instructions; meets our needs perfectly
It fits well into our small space. It arrived in perfect condition. The instructions were easy to understand. The only difficulty was the weight and we knew that would be difficult. It took less than a day to install. We love it.

A nice solution to a tight problem
We have a small house, and the space available for basement access is very confined (63" long, 24" wide). Prior to these stairs, we had a ladder for access, since there was no way to build a conventional staircase or spiral stairs. We were going to build a set of alternating tread stairs when we found this. The stairs arrive strapped to a largish skid, approx. 40x40". It is not light - 200+ pounds. After opening it up and inventorying parts (kit includes allen wrenches and a bag of spare ... read more fasteners, beyond what's needed), I was pleased with the quality of the components. Metal parts are sturdy, heavy-gauge steel. Welds are neat with good penetration. Paint is even and neat. Stair treads are laminated hardwood (beech or birch), well-sanded and finished. Overall, quality is high and parts consistent. Instructions are a little on the vague side, but if you read them carefully a few times it makes sense. The metal sections telescope into one another, and are secured by five setscrews that dog them in place. There is enough clearance between the sections so that each tread can be leveled and trued using the setscrews. It's best to level and align each section as you work your way down. The stair treads are unmarked and have to be individually marked and drilled. It goes quick if you make a template from your first tread. Railings are easy to install, require some trimming with a hacksaw. Anchored the bottom bracket into the concrete floors with wedge anchors set into epoxy, instead of the supplied plastic concrete anchors. I didn't want it to move. Ever. I spent about 6 hours on the job, from framing out the attachment point for the top support to installing the railings. It takes some getting used to (make sure to figure out which is your dominant stair-descending foot and install treads accordingly), but is feels very sturdy and safe. The treads are very smooth, and would benefit from some non-skid tape on the surface. Overall very pleased with the stairs.

    Excellant product.
Quality item. Installed without a problem. One tip - make sure to level each step as you install them from the top down. I had to backtrack. This product looks good. When people see it, they always have something good to say. It adds to the room instead of detracting. This style of stair, for me, is better than a spiral staircase. I can get a sheet of plywood up into the room, which would not be possible with a spiral staircase.

Great Product! I am buying my second one!
I have 2 small loft spaces and very tight entries to each. These stairs are absolutely great ! A little awkward to get used to the Left foot first on the ascent and a bit of a perceptual challenge ....BUT I placed a sticky back plastic no skid circle in the middle of each step so when traversing, each step is easily discriminated! Gotta love those italians for making such a great product!

    I love this staircase!
In our cottage, in a small living room, we needed a staircase to a little loft - space was limited! This staircase was the perfect solution. We purchased and installed it about a year and a half ago, so it's possible that the documentation and instructions are better now, but the weren't that easy at the time. There are now youtube videos that help with installation of the stairs and balcony railing. The staircase itself is solid, well-built, and attractive. We joked, and nicknamed it ... read more "stairasaurus" because the "vertebrae" that make up the curved support so reminded us of a dinosaur's skeleton. The thick hardwood treads look great, and we love the contrast with the white, powder-coated metal. The parts which attach railings et cetera are grey plastic but they are sturdy and well made. For anyone who worries that an "alternate tread" staircase is difficult to use - it's not difficult at all! I've always loved the gracefulness of a circular or spiral staircase, but they are not easy to walk on, due to the "pie shaped" steps. In contrast, the alternate treads require only that you start up or down on the correct foot, and then it's great! [Note: Somewhere in the internet there's a video by another stair manufacturer that shows a person walking up and down an alternate tread staircase, to illustrate that it does not pose a problem]. We are delighted with this staircase. It allowed us to have an interesting and attractive stair without the usual waste of space. It takes up half (or a third) the space of a traditional staircase. Additionally, its open and airy look is very attractive and "spacious" in our small space. At almost $1500 it's not cheap, but it is definitely worth the price.

    Quality stairs for close quarters
Bought these as a permanent stairway for our remodeled loft space. They are high quality, look great, and relatively easy to install...I say "relatively" and not "absolutely" because you do have to understand the rise over run concept for stairs, and adding a turn as we did does complicate it a bit. Overall we're very pleased with the end result. They're perfect for tight spaces and have a pleasing, high end look when complete.

Having cut strangers, thought i would give these a try. I was pleased with the result.
The ez stair system was worth the risk. Having cut stringers in the past, i was aware of the work involved. the system worked very well. Just be prepared to use a bunch of screws. get an impact driver if you don't already have one.

    missing important information
The printed instructions with EZstair are incomplete--missing important information. You must consult the videos on the website for complete information. The brackets worked just fine. But using them correctly is not the missing information.

    Great buy!
Excellent quality and design. I don't think it can be installed by one person in one day though. I would say two people and two days.

    I liked the stairs
I think for the price these stairs are a very good quality. Was a little tricky to put together. Had to watch the video a few times. Only problem I had was there was a gap between the top of the rail on the platform and the rail I had to add to keep anyone from falling down hole. Maybe I did something wrong but we fixed it by adding to the railing at the top.

    great product
This is a very good looking staircase for the price. actually half price than iron cast spiral case....it is not hard to install although it takes a whole day...everything fits great . it is a little bit wobbly though...as there is only a center pole and one attachment to the deck...but it looks great ! and does the job!

    A great option
The stair was easy to figure out, despite extremely limited instructions (mostly pictures). It was adaptable for the space, and when completed it fit a very tight area perfectly and rather elegantly. High quality materials make it a good bargain.

    Solid and heavy
First time stair builder - watched the video, followed the directions - pretty easy - however 4 steps, 42 inches wide is pretty heavy for one person to handle. I used Kreg pocket screws to attach the treads to the risers instead of nailing/screwing through the tread as directed. Looks great - feels SOLID.

    Fantastic product!
These brackets made building my back porch stairs incredibly easy! The online calculator helped me formulate an accurate materials list, and customized instructions for assembling the stairs. I would highly recommend this product!

EZ Stairs is a smart way to build stairs.
I have 150+ decks in the field using the EZ stair system and now do not build stairs any other way. What started as me offering a better alternative as an upgrade, quickly turned into incorporating it into a standard feature of my deck package. The first set you finish, get in the middle of it and give it a little bounce, you will feel why it is the best stair system on the market.
