If you have a dark/windowless room, you'll love this product
Our builder didn't put any windows in our bath or closet so even at noon on a sunny day I had to turn on lights to find shoes that matched. We put a Velux 14" in the bath area & a 10" in the closet--WOW factor 100%. Roofer installed 2 in about 1.5 hours. Our first Velux sun tunnel is 3 years old & no problems-light without electricity. love it!

Watch clearance in low pitch roof
I like this product and it provides much light in our previously dark foyer. Installation would have been easy except for one problem. The instructions and descriptions list a maximum recommended tunnel length of 20ft. However, there is no mention of a minimum distance. The swivel pipes for top and bottom of the tunnel probably work fine if you have at least 24" from the ceiling ring to the dome at the roof. I have a 3/12 pitch roof and my installation location only gave me 15". I had to

This TMR 014 works better than I expected
I bought one of these from Home Depot for our bathroom and it perormed so well I bought a second one for the kitchen. The price was among the lowest of on-line prices.and is fairly straight forward to install. The hardest part is removing the shingles from the roof and installing the flashing. It took me about 6 hours to install each one. I spent a lot of time climbing up and down the latter getting the tools I needed. Assembling the tube is a bit tricky and took several tries to get to fit properly.
Sun Tunnel was easy to install. We had to remove a swamp cooler and put this in its place. Love the light, it has opened up my front room.
Directions were easy to read.

Thrilled with our new sun tunnels. Install is not for the novice and had one of my key handymen held me out. The biggest trick is the opening in the ceiling and the putting back the shingles. The light we now get in our kitchen is awesome and we are ordering more. FYI a builder told me he charged $1,800 per tunnel and he is putting in the exact one. My cost for the handyman was $200 to help with 2 in Atlanta so it worked out to be under $400 each!!!!

Great light, inside cover slips
My solar tube was installed quickly and provides light in a dark corner of my kitchen. Only problem is the ring at the ceiling keeps trying to fall off and I have to push it back up.
I purchased two of these units for a kitchen remodel project and they are very nice. The installation was easy and they look great. The solar shades and night lights are neat but the light from these is wonderful and brightens the whole area as if lights were on. I will probably consider other units for the garage or baths. Happy customer.

Love the Light
We had our contractor put this above a tub in a bathroom remodel. It is both attractive and ecological. It has a built in remote control dimmer for those times you just want it to be dark. If I had it to over again, I would have put one of these in each upstairs bedroom and bath as well as the kitchen.

enjoying added light.
Our house is dark in the northeast winters. We installed these for added light and it worked. They take a couple of days to get adjusted to but we are considering installing more [installed 3 in the great room]. You absolutely must follow the installation instructions. The added solar powered night light is a waste of money. We will not be purchasing that one again but we will buy the less expensive model. Over all a very good product.
I installed three of these.
These were the perfect solution to a dim hallway and kitchen. Impressive light delivery even catches nighttime glow from streetlight. I keep looking over my shoulder to see the lights were left on...
Installation can be a challenge around pipes, electrical, joists and rafters but it is worth it.
The manufacturer in Phx AZ sells more tubes and elbows if needed @ 25.00 ea. Customer service is good.

Not what I expected.
I put this up in a large road that has minimal light from window. It has the appercence of a small very bright light fixture. Almost floricent with the dome defuser. It does light the room well but not very eligently. Worst yet I have a valted ceiling and it shines more direct at you. It does not give the impression of natural light. I tried this item for it being a less expensive, storm rated easy to install skylite . I may go and get a real stylite and use this in a different room in my home.

It really brightens up a room.
I hired a professional roofer to install the Skylight Tube. It was perfect. Added much light to a dark living area in my home. The ease of installation for the roofer was amazing and even the roofer was impressed. This is a very neat and clean product.
Looks good and allows lots of light in. Easy to install

Ease of installation for the amount of illumination added to the bathroom was the main reason we decided on this type of skylight.
We have these throughout our home and have been very satisfied.
And the on line purchase made it very easy. It was deliviered in 3 days to our door.

best tubular light out there
I have now installed many, many tubular skylights from several manufacturers. These are without a doubt the best in quality and ease of installation.
I really don't understand the "blue light" review, since all the tubular lights have the same reflective tubes--go figure. If you want a great product with ease of installation this is it, a little pricey thought, but worth it in the long run.
We had put this in a bathroom that had no windows, well it had just brought it to life. There is so much light now it makes the room. We will be putting one in our kitchen in the next couple of weeks. Great product, great price, good quality.

Makes a huge difference.
I've installed 5 of these in hallways and interior bathrooms now. The light they add is amazing, even lighting rooms on moonlit nights. One of my employees was so impressed he immediately bought two for his own house. Be sure to remove every last vestige of the blue film from the interior. Even a little sticking out from the joints will give the light a blue cast. Much easier to install with two people.

This is about the tenth one I've installed for customers. I've also installed other brands but this is the best and easiest. The only problem was when we opened the unopened box the instruction package with the templates and hardware was missing. Back to Home Depot. They had 4 units left, and three were missing the same parts!!! If you buy, check your box for ALL the parts before leaving the store.
I have 2 of these installed in my new remodeled kitchen.
You will probalby need the extension tube, so pick one up. I also have the Light kits, so at night you still have light.
My lights are on a dimmer. I plan to buy 4 more for a future addition. I am in Florida and these meet Maimi Dade
wind codes, 140 mph. These are a great price and very nice looking.

Tube Skylights - The Way to Go for DIYers
This "skylight" is the 5th we've installed ourselves. We installed the 10" "tubes" in a bathroom, hallway, and two in our small living room.
We decided to go with the 14" tube to "spread the light" to a larger area and hopefully postpone the desire for more of these "wonderous" little "free" light creators. So we placed it just in the kitchen area so it throws light on both our kitchen sink cabinet area and our adjoining dining area.
At midday, I keep thinking I need to turn off the light. It
... read more creates quite a bit of ambient lighting - certainly makes it possible to do a majority of tasks without turning on the electrical bulbs. The light is a bit "bluish", but I have "daylight" CFLs through-out the house, so, I'm used to it.
Installation was fairly simple, although time consuming - but the learning curve was already there. More time is spent, I think, actually in the attic trying to maximize the location when realizing that a 2x6 runs exactly where you initially wanted to install.
Definitely worth the money - and with the 2009 tax incentives - bonus!
It would be nice if ODL (and Home Depot) stocked accessories - like different light diffusers/face plates, solar powered "in-tube" lighting for evening use, etc.

Easy installation. Took longer to get things set up than it did to actually install. It made a huge difference in my kitchen.
With a reroof, I decided on two 10 inch; kitchen and bath. I was pleasantly surprised with the results. Now I wish I had before/after pics to post. :)

The light in my bathroom is wonderful. After putting this installation off for years, I got motivated and went into action. But my crawlspace is tight with work-around water pipes to crawl over. The product design is fine for instalation, but with the tight crawl space, the install itself was horrible! Glad I did it and it's done. The light coming in is blue, sky blue. I'll try to see if a lighting gel can warm it up. In the dark of night, there's a glow from street lights, just enouh to keep

Excellent product & service
I ordered two skylights and one package arrived badly damaged - but Charles at HD contacted the vendor and they agreed to send replacement parts overnight so I could continue with the project without delay. The new tubes arrived as promised and the installation went smoothly - easy to follow instructions and both skylights were complete within two hours. Special thanks to Charles at HD!
