    Better than expected
The project started with measuring and not being able to install a skylight. I read the instructions several times. The only person who could help me due to my schedule was my wife who fetched tools and materials for me. I installed two light tunnels in four hours. Remember that the height measurement includes about six inches for the space above the roof. the distance from the bottom of roof to the bottom of the ceiling needs to be less than 42 inches unless you purchase the extension tube.

    great value skylight
very simple installation with a little help from a second person. Measure twice, follow instructions. the roof flashing for a shingle roof is a little oversized (my opinion) so you have to loosen a few more shingles than normal, but overall...pretty simple. very pleased with the finish product. On bright days...I keep walking by trying to turn off the lamp switch!

    Tons of light
The light tube works wonderfully. It brings in an amazing amount of light and it looks pretty good. It is made of very light weight materials and will not put up with a great deal of abuse but once installed that should not be an issue. Installation is not for the meek. You have to be able to crawl around in the attic, cut an opening in the roof and manipulate the tube into place. I have a background in construction and it was not an easy task but it is possible for a skilled amateur with the ... read more proper tools, patience and time. If you are not sure of your abilities have someone else do the job. I have two installed already and I am planning on putting in a third. The smallest tube is installed in an interior bathroom and people are always trying to 'turn off the light', the thing is so bright. Well worth the expense to get a few.

Good, lots of light, easy install, double payne lense
Turned a very dark room (due to attached porch) into a pleasant room in the house. They let a lot of light in, though seemingly not quite as much as some other brand's sun tubes I installed (odl I think), but that may be due to 1, the low profile, and 2, the orientation of the house. Still, they have made our family room go from cave to sunroom. I bought the shepherds hook light attachments directly from the company's website as home depot did not have them. They were super easy to install and ... read more let me use the sun tubes as lights at night. I had roofers install the top portion while installing a roof, but it seemed pretty straight forward and possibly the most challenging part. Inside, I just had to cut a small hole to locate the rafters, then use the attached compass like template to cut the holes. everthing else fit perfectly. Simply cut the holes, screw the bottom plate, pull the attached tube through the hole, cut to size with a sharp knife, screw in the plastic retainer ring, and snap on the magentic lense. The lense is double pain and looks nice (far better than the ODL ones). For the light kit, the instructions online were wrong, had to get a paddle bit that would work (just size to the wire projection, listed bit is wrong online, possibly right in the ones that came with), but I ended up drilling the one hole to let the wires through, and doing all the wiring Pulled through retainer ring, flex tube, and mounting bracket then wiring, then secured the flex tube and retainer ring, as I did not have attic access. Took a bit more thought, but got it wired, then finished securing everything with the light dangling, then secured the light. I have not tried the passive vent feature, and probably wont, but I could see that being useful in a bathroom or laundry room.

    WONDERFUL!!!!
omg My husband put 2 of these up in my very dark kitchen. I am IN LOVE. I want 4 more and will eventually get them. These are wonderful and the amount of light is amazing! No regrets here. People if you had any doubts...forget them and purchase these tubes. If you have a large room, 2 smaller ones will work better than one large one...You have to look at where you want the light in the room and then plan out. The first one took a little longer as Hubby wanted to do it right..the second took ... read more about 2.5 hours. He said very easy to put up.

Watch clearance in low pitch roof
I like this product and it provides much light in our previously dark foyer. Installation would have been easy except for one problem. The instructions and descriptions list a maximum recommended tunnel length of 20ft. However, there is no mention of a minimum distance. The swivel pipes for top and bottom of the tunnel probably work fine if you have at least 24" from the ceiling ring to the dome at the roof. I have a 3/12 pitch roof and my installation location only gave me 15". I had to ... read more disassemble the elbows and force the whole thing to make a jog by force and sheet metal screws. The light is still bright, but it could be better. The 10" version might have shorter swivel pipes.

    WOW!
My wife and I wanted to add skylights because our kitchen was too dark but we did not want another round of messy construction. We saw a do-it-yourself show that had sun tunnels as an alternative so we decided to take the chance. We thought the before and after pictures were just photoshopped. Wow, were we wrong. We are so pleasantly surprised with the amount of light that the sun tunnel lets into our once dark kitchen. I would definitely recommend sun tunnels to anyone. We want to add they to ... read more other areas in the house. They make a very dramatic difference and they are not hard to install. Highly recommended!

    Definitely brightened the room!
We had the tubular skylight installed in our den; it only has one window and we needed lights on in there even on a sunny day--no more! The amount of light coming in now is perfect for reading during the day without any lights on in the room. We were not comfortable cutting a hole in the roof/ceiling and had it installed; the guys said it was really easy to install. The dome on the roof is not obtrusive. We love it! We also had the light fixture installed and that is what we use after dark -- ... read more great prices for both and we will recover the costs in electric bills.

Blown away by how much light this skylight brings in!
We had to take out bathroom window for new shower when we remodeled our bathroom and was absolutely blown away by how much light this skylight brings in. Lighting we installed above vanity does a great job, but when lights were off the room was a dark cave. Now when I walk past the bathroom I find myself checking the light switch thinking I left it on because how bright the room is now. Even on a clear night there is noticeable light from the moon and stars being pulled in. Well worth the money!

Excellent Choice For Adding Interior Lighting
In a cramped attic space, this can be an interesting project. However, by following some simple concepts for proper alignment almost anyone with some handyman experience can install a couple of these in a day. Professional installers might be a better option if you are on a tight schedule. The box it comes in does not do a whole lot to protect the contents, so you may spend some time having to straighten out the metal tubing from bends and dents. Rotating the sections to achieve the needed ... read more alignment for the light path from the roof dome straight down to the ceiling lens opening will be much easier if you completely remove the protective film from the grooves where they join. When we peeled back the film, it didn't come out of the grooves so we had to separate the pieces completely and rejoin them after all of the film was cleared away. We also used a long paint roller extension pole for a quick reference to see how much to rotate the tube sections to get the alignment we needed - much quicker than eyeballing it and following repeated attempts with guidance from the person on the roof. The amount of light that these added to our inside corridor is amazing. It completely transformed the look of our house and I no longer trip over the cats as I walk down the hall in the morning. I can see them in the clearly lit hallway now. Another benefit that was unexpected is how it extends the daylight period in the house -- when it is getting dark outside and very little light comes in through the windows from the sun going down over the horizon we still have about an extra half hour of light coming inside through the light tubes from the diffused light high in the sky. I haven't seen that feature mentioned in any of the product literature.

    Let the light in
Looks good and allows lots of light in. Easy to install

    best tubular light out there
I have now installed many, many tubular skylights from several manufacturers. These are without a doubt the best in quality and ease of installation. I really don't understand the "blue light" review, since all the tubular lights have the same reflective tubes--go figure. If you want a great product with ease of installation this is it, a little pricey thought, but worth it in the long run.

Beautiful solution to former chimney location
We moved a woodstove and I could not envision patching the hole in the ceiling and roof and having it look okay. We purchased the solar tube and not only does the ceiling look lovely, this solar tube throws a lovely light on a favorite picture. My husband rated the ease of installation as fair, which was primarily complicated by our flat top roof and the layers involved. He actually got it installed fairly quickly, sealing the roof has been the not-so-easy part. That said, we are talking about ... read more putting a couple more in next summer.

So far it seems to be what we were looking for, giving us plenty of light in the intended room area.
We were having a new roof installed, so decide to add the skylight. The kitchen area was dark in the corner, due to an outside carport, covering the kitchen door from getting sunlight. The skylight seems to have solved the problem and gives ample light for that area. We paid the roofer and a contractor to install the skylight and they didn't seem to have any problems with the install.

Installation will take longer than 2 hours
The box says 2 hours, but you should plan on at least twice that long, The instructions are good and if you read them carefully, the job will go better. Removing and replacing shingles is probably the worst part of the job. Wear gloves or suffer the skinned knuckles, etc. Be sure to check for leaks during a rain or shortly after. Don't wait to find out after the damage has occurred. Good luck.

    Great Skylights
I have 2 of these installed in my new remodeled kitchen. You will probalby need the extension tube, so pick one up. I also have the Light kits, so at night you still have light. My lights are on a dimmer. I plan to buy 4 more for a future addition. I am in Florida and these meet Maimi Dade wind codes, 140 mph. These are a great price and very nice looking.

Tube Skylights - The Way to Go for DIYers
This "skylight" is the 5th we've installed ourselves. We installed the 10" "tubes" in a bathroom, hallway, and two in our small living room. We decided to go with the 14" tube to "spread the light" to a larger area and hopefully postpone the desire for more of these "wonderous" little "free" light creators. So we placed it just in the kitchen area so it throws light on both our kitchen sink cabinet area and our adjoining dining area. At midday, I keep thinking I need to turn off the light. It ... read more creates quite a bit of ambient lighting - certainly makes it possible to do a majority of tasks without turning on the electrical bulbs. The light is a bit "bluish", but I have "daylight" CFLs through-out the house, so, I'm used to it. Installation was fairly simple, although time consuming - but the learning curve was already there. More time is spent, I think, actually in the attic trying to maximize the location when realizing that a 2x6 runs exactly where you initially wanted to install. Definitely worth the money - and with the 2009 tax incentives - bonus! It would be nice if ODL (and Home Depot) stocked accessories - like different light diffusers/face plates, solar powered "in-tube" lighting for evening use, etc.

    Great Product
Easy installation. Took longer to get things set up than it did to actually install. It made a huge difference in my kitchen.

    Great value
Thrilled with our new sun tunnels. Install is not for the novice and had one of my key handymen held me out. The biggest trick is the opening in the ceiling and the putting back the shingles. The light we now get in our kitchen is awesome and we are ordering more. FYI a builder told me he charged $1,800 per tunnel and he is putting in the exact one. My cost for the handyman was $200 to help with 2 in Atlanta so it worked out to be under $400 each!!!!

    Makes a real difference.
The sun tunnel was installed in my kitchen and it makes a real difference in bringing light into the work space. I'm glad I went with the larger size tube. Our only problem was that this kit was for a roof with shingles and I have a metal roof. Things needed to be adapted.

    Great light, inside cover slips
My solar tube was installed quickly and provides light in a dark corner of my kitchen. Only problem is the ring at the ceiling keeps trying to fall off and I have to push it back up.
