    Awesome rain barrel
The assembly was a bit more steps than expected, but worth it! We are excited when it rains- yes, we need a life. We like the look of it and it is working well.

Looks great....completely filled after an avg rain shower
My husband had no problem setting this thing up next to our deck. I wanted it close to my containers and raised garden so I could water directly from the hose attached to it. I put a mixed arrangement hanging basket in the planter top and took off the plastic hanger from the basket and it looks just like a wicker basket. Couple of days after it was set up, we got a hour rain shower and when I went out later, the urn was full of rain water!!! This looks great next to our brown deck and ... read more furniture!! Will probably get another one to set up at the other end of the deck near our other downspout gutter...have not found anything this attractive at any store or garden center....LOVE IT!

    Attractive, functional solution
The barrel is attractive, chocolate brown color, basket weave patterned. Even full, it can be moved by tilting it and rolling it on its bottom edge. Planter top is a little shallow, wondering whether petunias will get enough root depth. Easy to install EXCEPT that the water diverter requires a small downspout on the top and a large one below so we had to replace the gutter outlet and downspout from the gutter down to the top of the diverter. Had to get a very nice sheet metal worker out to ... read more complete the install but since he installed our original gutters and downspouts, he did not charge me.

    It's what I expected
So far so good, if the gutters I had installed work the next rain storm.

    Awesome
Set it up and we had a thunderstorm that evening. The next day it was completely full. A great way to help water the veggie garden.

    Sturdy Rain Barrel
I ordered this rain barrel thinking the lid came off. It does not - only the tiny (relatively) screen for catching debris - and for this you need a screwdriver to remove it. Considering the barrel needs to be cleaned out for winter and stored this may be an issue. I also got the stand for it - thanks to some other reviews that indicated the faucet is too close to the ground without it. This is true. Installation was relatively easy for me (a 50-ish woman) after getting a hacksaw to help with the ... read more downspout section removal.

    Still going strong
This will be the 3rd summer of use. Works great. We didn't have a downspout diverter the first year, but since the whole backside of our house goes to that downspout, it was too much for the barrel & overflow garden hose I rigged up to handle, so water would spill over near the top which meant water ending up near the house. The current diverter sends about half of the water to the barrel & the other half to the ground. 4 issues (1 major & 3 minor): - There are 2 overflow nubs of plastic )a few ... read more inches long & an inch or 2 in diameter), but there is no connection system/threads, so unless you find the exact size of hose (larger than a garden hose), you will have issues connecting something to the overflow areas (like I did) - the main spout is cheap, just throw it out and buy a nice brass one for a few bucks. - the place at the top for plants catches a lot of water in a storm, so if you don't want to drill drain holes you will have flooded plants. But if you do drill a hole or three, that nice potting soil/dirt can end up in the bottom of your barrel. - the plastic filter that goes between the lid and the bottom section is hard to get out to clean. I rigged up a little piece of plastic (a pvc pipe seal) through one of the holes in the filter so i can pull it out.

    Nice rain barrel
I like this rain barrel, and I only give it four stars because of unclear instructions. Here are some of the problems that I had. Hopefully these insights will make it easier for someone else assembling this thing. - The package comes with two different sets of instructions. After about 45 minutes of trying to figure out which one I was supposed to follow, I finally realized that there are instructions for the "basic cascata rain barrel" (which does not include a pump) and the "deluxe cascata ... read more rain barrel" (this model, which includes a pump). After I figured that out, the rest was straightforward. The instructions for the deluxe barrel should be followed, and then eventually it will tell you to switch to the basic instructions and follow them to finish installation. Once you have switched back to the basic instructions, all you really need to do is put the mesh screen on, place the top on, and then route the downspout into it. - I also had problems getting the drain plug installed. The first step sounds simple enough, as it is something like "screw the black drain plug into the bottom of the barrel." I tried and tried and tried until I realized that I was supposed to be screwing it from the inside of the barrel. This thing is almost 4 feet tall and reaching all of the way down in it is impossible. I finally got out my ratchet set, found a socket that seemed to match, but had to borrow another extension from a neighbor before I could reach inside far enough to properly tighten it down. I put the plug inside the socket and taped it down. Then I reached into the barrel and got the threads started. At that point I was able to pull the tape and ratchet out of the barrel, remove the tape, and then finish tightening. - The instructions talk about routing the garden hose and the pump's power cord through the "larger" hole on the barrel. Both holes appeared to be the same size to me, but one sits slightly higher if you look closely. I finally found pictures on their website that showed that this was the hole that they meant. If you are standing at the front of the barrel (leaning over it to get to the back) it will be the hole on your right. If you are facing the back of the barrel directly, it's the hole on the left. The other hole is for overflow. Other than that, this seems to be great so far. Make sure to place this on a solid, even surface (I put mine on a 24" square planter after leveling out the ground). You don't want it sitting on rocks or anything like that. I have been told that sitting it on uneven surfaces can puncture the bottom of the barrel once it is full (i.e. the weight of the water causes enough force for a small object to puncture the bottom). I am not sure how true this is, but I would rather not find out. The pump is neat, just plug it in and it shoots water about 4 to 5 feet, which is perfect for watering a garden. Alternatively you can use the spout to let water drain out, perhaps into another container like a watering can, using only gravity. There is no power switch for the pump however. Once you connect it to an extension cord and plug that into an outlet, the pump is on. They also (obviously) recommend plugging the extension cord into a GFCI protected outlet. The "overflow valve" is also a bit lame. It's just a hole at the top of the barrel that water spills out of. I plan on purchasing some rubber hose to attach to it so that I can route it down to the ground and into my garden as opposed to just splashing all over the ground. We have had one night of moderate rain since installing this barrel, and it filled up about 60% of the barrel. Finally, I cannot comment on the long term durability of this product since I have only had it set up for a few days (just got new gutters). Once I got past the instructions and got the right tools, I have been very pleased with it so far.

    Well designed
I purchased two of these barrels a few months ago. I wrote a separate unfavorable review about the Fiskars that I also purchased. This barrel, on the other hand, is smartly designed and looks nice. There's a sturdy metal spigot to fill your bucket or connect a hose. There is another outlet on the bottom of the unit with hose connector so that the barrel can be drained completely, i.e., you really do get the 65-gal capacity unlike other models that don't have this. There is a removable filter ... read more screen on the top of the unit to catch debris. I really like these barrels. If there is any downside, it is with the overflow outlets. In a torrential downpour, my outlet got overwhelmed and water was spilling out the top. This was partly my fault for restricting the outlet with a connector insert. This can easily be corrected by using both provided outlet ports.

DIY RAIN BARREL collects extra rain
Overall it was easy to install and seems to be functioning well. It has only been installed for about two weeks at this point. The only Con for me is that due to the shape of the top it allows water to pool which will promote mosquitoes so Ill have to keep an eye on that each time it rains.

    Best Purchased
The Rain Barrel was fine, instructions very easy to follow, except the one access port on the top of the barrel was unable to be opened. except for all that this it was an excellent purchase for what I needed.

    Rain Barrel
The Rain Barrel came on time. It's just like they described it. All the parts were included. Heavy enough to hold the rain without sagging at the bottom. A 55 gallon hard plastic drum. It is sealed tight enough to keep Mosquito out. I purchases 3 and they are already full. I think I need 1 more for the front of the house to water my potted plants. The direction need to be a little more clear with the drilling and placement of the holes. Other then that it is a great purchase.

    Nice solid rain barrel
I bought three of these to catch rainfall from the roof. They work very well. Nice, solid and substantial. My nephew installed them without trouble. Only problem: I wanted to attach 20-ft. hoses to the spigots so I could water the yard with them. Pressure was not sufficient. Had to take the hoses off and just use a bucket to empty the barrels.

    It Does the Job
We purchased this rain collector mainly to store the water we were collecting through our clean catch practices. (Catching the clean water that is usually allowed to go down the drain when heating water for showers. baths and dishes.) This rain collector was easy to assemble, we did use plumber's tape to connect the spigot and have had no leaks. We were careful not to over tighten the connecting nut. It also has the best capacity for the price.

    Not Bug Proof
The best thing is that this barrel holds lots of water. I bought a brass, 1/4 turn ball valve for the spigot at the bottom to replace the plastic one. The bad thing is that the lid does not fit snugly and I am going to use pipe insulation to try and make it seal so I don't have to use chemicals to keep mosquitos out.

Well made and looks good--flowers are happy!
The rain barrel sits near the front door, so I wanted one with a little style. It perfectly blends in with my Mexican flower pots. The barrel's wide opening catches a lot of the roof runoff easily. The knock-out plug is easy to get to so I can drain the barrel if I need to move it. Two things missing that would improve the functionality: a tap that swivels left and right to make filling watering cans easier and a place on the back to wind up and store a hose.

    So far so good!
This is our first rain barrel and so far it is doing a good job! The color matches our house and it is large enough to collect water over several hard rains. I have to tip it on its side to fill up a watering can, but it is light enough to tip fairly easy. I did notice more mosquitoes around and make a conscious effort to keep the mesh top in the closed position. We've already saved on water usage!

    very nice addition
A very nice addition to our garden. Lightweight, so it is easy to move around, but attractive.

Excellent water catcher & reserve unit
This rain barrel is awesome! Easy to install and it looks great and works very easy. Shortly after install we received rain that filled the barrel up. We have had plenty of water to use on our potted plants. Our neighbor gave us a positive response on how well the rain barrel looked...

    Great features
Easy to install, installed two barrels in less than 30 minutes. It recently rained, went out to check the barrels and they were both filled with water. I like the fact that there are no screens or openings on the top. This will keep animals out of the barrel and eleminate the possibility of mosquitos. The barrels came with a nice long hose on the bottom, this gives us easy access to water when we want to water our plants. Sturdy and appears it will last a long time. I cannot think of anything we ... read more did not like about this product.

    Attractive & Functional
This rain barrel is solid, attractive, and relatively easy to install. The only reason I have not given it 5 stars is that the outflow hose was folded so tightly in the box that it was kinked. Even using pliers we were unable to straighten out the kink sufficiently for water to flow through. After we attached a new hose, it worked fine.

    Great barrel for the price
This rain barrel is the perfect size for my upper deck. I have 3 60 gallon barrels on the ground which would be to big for a deck. The diverter is easy to apply to your downspout and works fine. For the lower spicket to flow, I needed to raise the barrel about 12" . You can use ceament blocks, build a stand out of wood, or buy a $45 stand at Menards. I built a wooden stand since the barrel is on a wood deck. Works great, set up is easy and perfect size for samll area or useage.

    love my rain barrel
this is the second time i bought this same rain barrel and i love them! so easy to install and even come with the tools.the best part is the topof the rain barrel can become a beautiful garden on top.i have an herb garden on one and i am thinking flowers on the other.every time it rains(or fog) i feel like i am getting free water delivered!!!

Good deal. Plastic faucet. Planter not what I expected.
Overall great deal for the price. Faucet piece is made of plastic and feels like it might not hold up for many seasons. Top "planter" is simply the cover flipped over, I thought it would be more than that. Very easy to install. Sturdy plastic barrel. Will be great to water the gardens with this summer!
