    good product
good product but the battery that I bought separately did not fit into the cover. Kohler should specify the type and size of battery required for each model.

Not the cheapest but probably the best overall system
The system is just as promised in the literature. It is more than a temporary solution to emergency power: it is designed to be installed permanently. The transfer switch is a real bonus and not always part of a generator package. Installation is possible as a DIY project but it may be wise to call in an electrician for the connection of the transfer switch to the home electrical panel. The system ran perfectly on the first try and the automatic test feature will do weekly runs to ensure that it ... read more is ready when needed. The only missing feature is some sort of remote monitor/start control so that the status can be checked without going outside. Kohler makes a "ACD remote" but they are difficult to locate.

This product is a very well made item.
I am very proud to have this Kohler Generator sitting on my patio. It seems to be very well made and is in a corrosive housing. I think kohler is a little too pricey on their accesories. They ask $700.00 for the automatic switch and Generax has them for under $500.00. The problem, Generax is not compatible with Kohler. You can't win for loosing...Fred

    Great standby
The installer also sells a competitor's brand, but put this one on his own home. Definitely do buy the one with the transfer switch, as buying it separately costs twice as much. Tough to move into place, as I had to buy a couple of 3/4" iron pipes and some heavy rope to build a bridle, then lift it into place with a Bobcat with forks (weighs 565#), but parked it on the pad I had poured, and it's going nowhere now. Be sure to get one big enough for whole house supply, as this one is for mine, but ... read more even then, you can't run everything including the A/C at once. Used with a bit of sense, it's plenty big. If you live in country with hard freezes, get the heater kits to be sure it starts in frigid weather. It's worth the extra cost for insurance. Once set up, it's trouble-free, self-testing, and about the only maintenance is a yearly oil change. Get it professionally wired, as it's no job for an amateur.

unit arrived as promised and has all the needed features.
although we have not used the unit yet, it appears to have all the needed features of a top rated generator. The transfer switch did not have the throwswitch in the box that was needed to pass the building inspection. We had to purchase the switch and another box separately, this and the labor added another 200.00 to the cost of installation. This is still a good buy, if purchased on sale.

Works like a charm in tests
I had the unit professionally installed. And, it takes care of the whole house without any problems. I bought the unit at HD and had to arrange my own pick up from the store. I would advise acquiring it online so that shipping is taken care of.

    Great back-up for the House
Shipping was a little slow. Had all contractors scheduled and had to reschedule work. Worked out just fine. Started on the 6th second and is fueled by LP Gas. Work was completed in 3 weeks with all the in town code requirements. Everything worked great and the switching was quick. If they could just have a reset for all the clocks in the house after a power outage. hahaha No problems at all!!!!!

    Very pleased so far
We are still installing the 22kw generator and would like to be able to switch from natural gas to propane without using tools. I read this was possible. Is there a combination valve we need to buy or is it included with the generator?

    Excellent generator
This is a great generator and it is quality built. At 22k, It had no problem supporting everything that we could turn on in the house including central air and clothes dryer. Power grid failures are not often in the area but when they do it is usually at the most inopportune time. No problem anymore. Important note: Since this generator and the included 200 amp automatic transfer switch supports the whole house, it has to be installed *before* the main service panel. For most people, this is not ... read more a do it yourself project, unless you happen to be a professional electrician. You should consider getting a Generac authorized installer.

The generator is only part of the cost
I think the Generac will be good to have, but you should be aware that the installation costs may be more than you expect. I had to get a larger capacity gas meter for $150. The gas plumber was $700 and the electrician will be $1200-$1500. Probably still worth it because we've been flooded out 4 times before due to power outages and each time cost more than the generator will cost.

    Nothing to complain about...
Delivered in a timely manner (10 days) though I believe I was expecting it in around seven. I found through multiple estimates that it is cheaper to buy the unit yourself and then have it installed rather than get it through a thrid party. I finally had it installed for about $1900 which was far less than any other estimate I had been given. Unit works well... I had 2 small problems with the install but I am very happy with the product. Now I can count on the power not going out for at least a few years.

    Great!
First time installing. Did not know what to expect. Wired transfer switch according to instructions, set generator on pad and followed start-up procedure. Wow, it ran perfectly. No adjustments were needed, 1 by 1 we added loads until all were on. Now when power goes off in 10 seconds generator starts and 5 seconds later our lights and critical circuits all come back. When utility power is restored, in 1 second power is transferred back and generator goes into a cool down period and shuts off ... read more awaiting next fail. Exceeded our expectations. We love it. Can't wait till next power failure. Mike - Blakeslee, PA

    Generac Series installation & features
Selected this manufacture / model after multiple years of experience with a 20K unit at a previous property. It functioned flawlessly when needed with limited maintenance. This new unit (10K) installed (natural gas and transfer panel) with little effort and started the 1st time on manual and then on auto when tested. Disappointed it was not shipped or offered with a starter battery & battery case - required to search the manual for a correct battery type / model.

    Works just like it promises
Installed a few weeks ago and within 5 days, it had to jump on due to a power outage. Worked great and we are relieved to have this with the winter. Highly recommend.

    Good price, acceptable quality
I am electrician and we have installed more than 100 in less than a year, I like the performance, virtually dot have to do anything, just change the oil. It is true that we have taken some mechanical problems with some, but in general I like. I recommend it.

    Compact Yet Powerful
This unit is small enough to integrate with the landscape and yet packs plenty of power and is always at the ready.

    Good little standby.
No wiring comes with this kit, just generator and outdoor box with breakers. Runs great, remote really is not usefull. I have it running 3 ton A/C, tv, lights, side by side refrigerator, and some outlets. It's about the same loudness as a 6.5 HP lawn mower. They could have put a better muffler on it but its not to bad in the house. You lose warrenty if you self install but if you know what your doing its around 3,000 for install labor here. That's 2 generators in my book. Either way if it lasts ... read more 5 years I'm still ahead something new, bigger, and quieter will be out then its just plug in the new one.

    Great size for a generator!
I like the fact that this backup generator is a perfect fit for homeowners with small properties! This would help us out in our small home when a storm comes and the power goes out! Thanks

    Kohler whole house generator/14KW
The power has not been off yet.I think it will be nice to not have to hook up a generator to have electric power.
  3. 3 years ago
It seems like a solid unit and looks very nice next to the house.
Although we have not had a need for our Kohler generator yet, Seems to be working properly and was easy enough for a licensed Electrician to install. Home Depot does not carry or offer a group 51 battery for the generator. You would think one would come with the unit for the money.

    Trustworthy companion in a storm
I have had the 10KW generator for three years and in that time we have had many a power outage, just two last week for 5 hours and 3 hours respectively.  For the first one last week we did not even know we were on the generator because it started during the night.   In our house we could not even flush the toilet without power so this was a must.  When the power goes out we still go on.

    service/functions
i am on oxygen 24/7. in the past, i had to find my way down cellar to get on a different oxygen delivery system if i had a power failure. my neighbor had to take care of my gas generator as i am unable to do it. this wonderful generator has given me immeasureable peace of mind and being able to detect what is wrong from inside the house is awesome. philbrick's generators out of stratham, nh is my dealer and i could not ask for better service. all company of all types should take lessons from ... read more them as well as the team they have set up to install them from the electrician (s) to the fuel company. i am so pleased and happy. i will recommend this to anyone.

    Happy with Generator
Works well, needed warrantee work after one year which is very costly. Defective ground on engine generator and defective control board in electrical control panel. Dealer honored the engine repair, not the panel. Very expense and not a DY project.
