Great Product with Below Average Coverage.
The stain was easy to use and the pump sprayer allows for quick application. It dries quickly and looks great. I chose this stain because of the above and the better than average coverage listed. I came to find out the coverage was about 40% of the listed coverage. So what I thought was going to be a couple hundred dollar project turned into a project costing closer to thousand dollars.

    Only time will tell.
It appears to be effective but I cannot truly know for at least a year. Convenient packaging which actually is cheaper per gallon than when buying 1 gallon cans. Went on well but do not expect predicted coverage. Wood, shadow box, fence soaked it up as expected.

    Past my expectation
When I decided to buy this I was concerned that it was too good to be true. It is easy to apply as long as you realize there will be overspray and you cover anything you don't want sprayed. The only reason I did not give it a 5 was that on horizontal service it is great but on vertical surfaces you better have a brush ready because it will run. I would recommend this for patios and will purchase it again when the time comes

    Cedar Stain and Sealer
Nice color, easy to apply and good coverage. Definitely recommend!

    Good stuff
I used this on a cedar patio cover I recently built for someone. It turns the wood to a darker red color. Very nice looking and my customer was very happy with it. Applying with a brush... only one coat will absorb in cedar.

    Can't go wrong
By far the biggest benefit is the ease of reapplication. No scrapping, wire brushing or sanding required. Simply clean with a bleach solution, let dry thoroughly and apply by brush, roller or spray. I have used a myriad of other products on my old decks and always had to spend countless hours prepping. After replacing my 30 year old decks I wanted a product that wouldn't require such intensive prep work, and this is it. And we love the result. Full, rich color. Beautiful.

    Good Product
I've used this for the past 6-7 years on my decks. It holds up very well on railings, etc., but not very well on the deck surface itself. I didn't apply to my deck until several years after I built the deck so I think that has something to do with it. I have applied this to deck boards that were new and the stain holds up much better when applied to newer boards. It seems to be more like a paint than a stain and it really isn't transparent, but it goes on easy and looks good. I would recommend this product.

    Holding Up Well Through Weather
Finish on my porch still beading water after second winter. The part of my redwood porch deck that gets direct sun all the time has about lost its protection after two years, but the areas protected from the severe effects of the sun is ok for another year. This Thompson's Waterseal is very thin and could be sprayed. I used a roller and brush and was satisfied with application. Wood grain really shows through.

    Easy Way To Add Color
I've used Thompson's water seal for years for decks and to seal concrete. This new line of stain/water sealer combo is a great way to add color and protect any porous surface. The transparent is very transparent so I would maybe recommend the semi-opaque instead if you really want to see the color clearly. But of course you should always test a small area to figure out what works best for your situation. I highly recommend this product.

TRANSPARENT HARVEST GOLD STAINED MY NEW CEDAR FENCE
Although the instructions warned me not to, I thinned the "water soluble" stain so it would spray evenly with a Hudson sprayer. About 60% water to 40% Thompson's. I figure the water will dry and the only thing left will be the original product. As I walked along my 80' x 6' fence with the sprayer, I used a cheap 4" paint brush to spread it evenly. Seemed to be working fine. Went back for a few touch-ups then cleaned up. About 2 hours later the fence looked perfect. I splashed a little pool ... read more water on it and viola, water beaded just like I hoped. I'll add to this review in a few months and let everyone know how it's holding up.

    Great
I used this for wood steps and a bench. The bench sat out over the winter and still looks like I just stained it. The wood steps are in a very high traffic area and still look great after a year. I am going to refinish my deck and with Restore stain and would recommend its use it for any outdoor wood project.

    Great for playset
We just finished using this on our 10 year old rainbow play-set. The play-set looks brand new! Its better than just a stain because it covers more like a paint, and helps make the wood look brand new. It covers well, it was easy to apply and so far it seems to hold up very well (even with our rowdy kids). I would definitely recommend this. I am now getting ready to paint our wood plank fence with the same stuff. I want all the wood in my yard to look this good!

    Great Sealant
We picked this up to add some water-proofing to our kids new swing-set. As we found out that most of the time the "treatment" coating is only for color, not for weather-proofing. you only need to apply 1 coat of this product to the wood surface you need to treat. It dries to the touch within 20 minute. we let it set for 24 hours before turning the sprinklers on and it worked wonders. if you try to apply a second coat, after the first has completely dried, the stain will bead up and not have a ... read more uniform look. I found this out by trying to do some touch ups on missed spots and small chips found. the color is more solid and not very transparent, however you can still see the wood grains through the stain. it's been working very well and the water just beads right up and does not adsorb. we used a little over half a gallon on the play-set and used a 3 inch brush to apply. overall it took about 3 hours to coat the entire thing from top to bottom. cleans up with water (when still wet)

Very easy to apply. The best color on my deck ever.

Covers up flaws in the old surface
This is the first time I've used solid waterproofing stain from Thompsons. The first thing I noticed is that the liquid has a lot higher viscosity - you can tell by picking up the container. It pours a lot thicker than the regular Thomspons. I actually applied this with an old roller vs a sprayer. The roller did a great job - it's quite a bit slower than spraying. The results are interesting. I could tell that it dried much thicker than regular Thompsons. It covered up the flaws in the surface ... read more - did a great job of doing that. It also covered up most of the grain. Since my deck had some prior damage, I actually like the look. It sure came out looking like a new deck! Some recommendations: If covering up old material, pressure wash it first, to get rid of any loose stuff and to make sure you have a good base for the stain to stick. Let it dry thoroughly, before staining. Put the stain in a roller tray and using a medium grade roller, roll it out in nice even lines. Don't let this stain puddle. Make sure you don't have debris fall on your stain job.

    Wow, amazing product!
I had an older wooden fence I wanted to try and use this on to prolong the life of the fence. First I had to clean and pressure wash the fence. Next I allowed the fence to fully dry for a full week. Once it was fully dry I applied the satin with a pump sprayer. I would spray one section and where I had some runs I went over it with a paint brush to make it uniform. Use a high quality pump sprayer for best results. I used a two gallon sprayer which had a special fence nozzle in it and it worked ... read more great! To protect the grass I put down cardboard which allowed me to spray right to the ground. The fence looks almost new now and best of all it is protected against the rain. This is an excellent waterproofing stain.

    Quality product
After trying many types of stains (both solid and semi solid) over the years from different companies I must admit this Thompson stain appears to be the closest to the ideal finish I have been looking for. After applying this product to a new smaller deck (Treated wood) and a swing set of the same material I was very happy with the color and uniformity of the finish. Preparing the product for application and clean up was not overly difficult. Can not comment on the durability because only time ... read more will tell, but, I have used Thompson products for many years and they have always served me well.

    Great winter protection
This stain worked wonderfully to protect our deck from the snow and ice. We repaired a part of our deck last fall and wanted to get a quick coat on the new wood just in time for the first snowfall. It still looked great in the spring! The rain truly beads up and rolls right off. So this fall we finished the job and covered the entire deck, old and new wood. The color blended nicely. Since it's semi-transparent, you have to be careful about applying it because brush strokes and drips do show. But ... read more after applying two coats, everything evened out and looked pretty good even with a somewhat sloppy application. The maple brown color is true to the color on the packaging, so we were very happy with the product overall.

Easy to apply. Finish looks great.
Was pleasantly surprised after putting the Flood cedar stain onto my deck. Prepped the deck using Behr deck cleaner. Scrubbed it thoroughly and allowed to dry. Put first coat of Flood deck stain onto the boards and it soaked in immediately. I applied a second coat before the first completely dried. This worked out very nice. Used on rails, steps and decking. Easy to put on and looks very nice.

    Beautiful and effective
We've used this product for the past 3 years. It looks amazing (makes ordinary wood look rich and exotic) and so far seems to be protecting the wood on our deck very well.

Great product! The person who gave it one star doesn't know how to use it.
To bobonthefob, my guess is that you applied this product directly over pressure treated wood without letting it fully season. You have to let any pressure treated wood get to or below 18% moisture content before applying anything to it. This flood product works very well and for the price it's a great choice. You can get better products, however they cost $10.00 more a gallon and up.
