We picked this up to add some water-proofing to our kids new swing-set. As we found out that most of the time the "treatment" coating is only for color, not for weather-proofing.
you only need to apply 1 coat of this product to the wood surface you need to treat. It dries to the touch within 20 minute. we let it set for 24 hours before turning the sprinklers on and it worked wonders. if you try to apply a second coat, after the first has completely dried, the stain will bead up and not have a

uniform look. I found this out by trying to do some touch ups on missed spots and small chips found.
the color is more solid and not very transparent, however you can still see the wood grains through the stain. it's been working very well and the water just beads right up and does not adsorb.
we used a little over half a gallon on the play-set and used a 3 inch brush to apply. overall it took about 3 hours to coat the entire thing from top to bottom. cleans up with water (when still wet)
Best of all I used before
Very easy to apply. The best color on my deck ever.
Covers up flaws in the old surface
This is the first time I've used solid waterproofing stain from Thompsons. The first thing I noticed is that the liquid has a lot higher viscosity - you can tell by picking up the container.
It pours a lot thicker than the regular Thomspons. I actually applied this with an old roller vs a sprayer. The roller did a great job - it's quite a bit slower than spraying. The results are interesting. I could tell that it dried much thicker than regular Thompsons. It covered up the flaws in the surface

- did a great job of doing that. It also covered up most of the grain. Since my deck had some prior damage, I actually like the look. It sure came out looking like a new deck!
If covering up old material, pressure wash it first, to get rid of any loose stuff and to make sure you have a good base for the stain to stick. Let it dry thoroughly, before staining.
Put the stain in a roller tray and using a medium grade roller, roll it out in nice even lines. Don't let this stain puddle.
Make sure you don't have debris fall on your stain job.
