    Great Water Heater
Replaced a 40-gallon with this 50 gallon. No more running out of hot water with teenagers in the house - noticed that immediately. Also, the electronic pilot light ignition is much easier than a really long match! Seems of high build quality. One note - it has air-intake holes all around, so a water-heater blanket has to avoid these areas.

    Nice
Had a friend that needed a new heater, on a Sunday no less. Not really a Rheem guy but, what can I do. Pretty impressed with it and he is very happy. In a pinch, I would recommend it.

    very nice
i have to first sat i haven't had an gas bill with this heater installed. so is it more efficient? most likely,my old heater was about 25 yr old. i could only hope this one would last as long.i would run out of hot water with back to back showers.it was a 40 gal unit. As you know the new unit is 38 gal.i have all the hot water i need. I would bet you could run the shower, dish washer, and clothes washer.all at the same time with out running out of hot water. I installed it myself, with out any problems.

    Convenient control panel.
Installation is about as easy as replacing a water heater ever is. With the new standards, the new water heater was taller then the old one. The connection spacing was also just a bit different. You may want to consider getting flexible line connections, both to make this job easier, and for the next time it needs to be replaced. The only connection that didn't need work was the gas hookup. I like the build-in igniter. It makes lighting the pilot easy. Just hit the igniter button every 10 ... read more seconds until the LED starts flashing green. You still have the usual change to pilot position on the dial and hold in the button, but it sure beets using a match or torch to light.the pilot. No panel to remove and put back on.

    Quality
Just replaced original 20 yr old Rheem that performed flawlessly until eventual inevitable failure from age fatigue. This new one is much quieter, heats very effectively on medium heat setting, installed without issue, and fired up on initial attempt. It's only been in use for 2 days so I'm unable to comment on longevity but the water quality (odor, pressure, temperature) is much improved.

    water heater
The water heater is great, and Ez to install. But Home Depot really, go to check out and all there credit and check verified system are down, cash only or they have to call the bank, on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Then 2 weeks later I went to customer service at a different store and they can't find my order because 1800homedepot was down. You really need to work on your IT department

Works just fine once we got a good one
This water heater was easy to install. Unfortunately, the first one would not light even after spending time on the phone with the manufacturer. They told us to go to home depot and get a new ignition set which it turned out home depot does not carry. We had to take the faulty water heater out, return it to the store and install a replacement. The replacement started up right away. I used a handyman for this job and he had to charge extra for replacing the water heater. I will try to get the ... read more extra dollars back from the manufacturer. Buy this water heater only if you want to take a chance on this happening to you.

    Replacement water heater
This water heater was an exact fit replacement for a world pool 40 gal. Took under an hour and a half to do the swap. Initial start up was simple and well explained. It did take over two hours for first full tank of hot water, but has performed flawlessly since. Burner makes less than half the noise of old water heater. Have not had installed long enough to compare gas usage.

    dependable
Despite mixed reviews, I have been very pleased. I was concerned about the now-so-great reviews, but the good reviews were great. My friend who installed it highly recommended it, so since the price was right I gave the go-ahead. So glad I did, it has been dependable from the start. Installation was a little rough, he had to make a couple of trips back to the store where he got it, but once he was completely through it worked perfectly from day one.

Converted from tankless to this one
We had a tankless water heater that was not big enough for a family of 5 in our house. After three hours of installation (this was with making modifications to fo to the tank) this unit was ready to go and tool about 45 min to am hour to heat the water. I've had it installed for about a month and can not be happier that I stayed away from going with another tankless heater. Yes it took a bit to initially get lit, but read the instructions and it will light.

Rheem Performance Platinum 40-gal Short Water Heater
This water heater came fully assembled in the box, and was less than a week from manufacture date. With the higher efficiency, the unit is about 2 inches taller than the circa 2000 versions. Unfortunately, that meant a re-design of the copper tube inlet and outlet runs. I know that lead solder is banned to reduce net exposure, but the alternate solder materials are way more finicky to get a good seal. I now have the situation such that the next unit can grow another 2 inches (about max before it ... read more bumps attic rafters in the above laundry room install location). I used flex copper fittings (15", 18", 24") to connect to cold, thermal overflow, and hot tubes. I used flex stainless for the gas connection. The start-up matched to the instructions, as the first time to light does take longer that expected. The unit includes a piezoelectric spark generator (good bye to matches!!) The unit controller also includes a blinking LED to indicate an active pilot. The unit does not require an electrical connection. The heat settings do not match the specs, as they are a couple of degrees cooler. Thus, I had to use the B setting to get water sufficiently hot at the kitchen sink/dishwasher.

    Good but........
The water heater is fine. Picking it up was a nightmare. A special order I know. Waited a time for it to be made and shipped to store, That, I understand, but the pick process at customer service needs to be smoothed out,

    Rheem water heater.
I purchased this a couple of months ago. It replaced a Kenmore 65 gallon heater. Even though this new one is a 40 gallon model, we have yet to even run low on hot water! We have filled the Jacuzzi in one bathroom while taking a shower in the other bathroom and there is still plenty of hot water left. By the way, our gas bill is lower also. My biggest regret is that I didn't purchase this Rheem sooner!! Excellent product that I have already recommended to a lot of people.

    Taller than described
Was not an in-stock item, so ordered based on dimensions listed online. Should have been only 1" taller than unit I replaced. Since it really was 3" taller the exhaust would've run downhill and needed to be completely rebuilt to allow the proper slope. Extra trip to the store and additional expense.... Other than that the unit is exactly as advertised. After installed and filled it fully heated in 30 minutes. Wife took a 10 minute shower and by the time she dressed it had fully recovered and ... read more burner was off. I think this will beat the heck out of heating a 50 gallon tank.

    Awesome to have hot water!
Replaced an old 40 gallon water heater with this new 29 gallon XR90 model. Adjusting the for inflation the numbers suggest a yearly savings of $210 in the cost of natural gas. Installed the new unit myself -- and the installation went well. Compared to the 40-gallon model the XR90 was about 4" taller at the water pipe and exhaust connections. The gas valve was located within a half inch of the older unit and therefore did not require any rework or rerouting of the gas piping. No additional ... read more floor space was needed as it really is just as wide as the old 40-gallon unit was. The directions for first use were logical. Fill up the tank, allowing the air to escape. Plug the unit in. Select the desired temperature. Warm water in 10 minutes; hot enough within 15. Electric ignition means there were no matches required. Regarding capacity I am able to take a 45-minute shower without having to adjust the hot-cold mix. I have found it does not matter if washing the laundry and/or the running the dishwasher at the same time. My only complaint was the unanticipated noise from the exhaust fan when running; equivalent to the exhaust fan on the furnace when it kicks off. Surprisingly it has not bothered me as much as I thought it was going to.

    No electrical power needed.
I wish all water heater comes with adjustable legs so that it can be easier when installing it on sloped ground just like clothes washer does.
