Rheem Performance Platinum 40-gal Short Water Heater
This water heater came fully assembled in the box, and was less than a week from manufacture date. With the higher efficiency, the unit is about 2 inches taller than the circa 2000 versions. Unfortunately, that meant a re-design of the copper tube inlet and outlet runs. I know that lead solder is banned to reduce net exposure, but the alternate solder materials are way more finicky to get a good seal. bumps attic rafters in the above laundry room install location). I used flex copper fittings (15", 18", 24") to connect to cold, thermal overflow, and hot tubes. I used flex stainless for the gas connection.
The start-up matched to the instructions, as the first time to light does take longer that expected. The unit includes a piezoelectric spark generator (good bye to matches!!) The unit controller also includes a blinking LED to indicate an active pilot. The unit does not require an electrical connection.
The heat settings do not match the specs, as they are a couple of degrees cooler. Thus, I had to use the B setting to get water sufficiently hot at the kitchen sink/dishwasher.
