    good deal
installed water heater and it worked fine. I had no problems with starting up as some reviewers indicated. Read and followed directions. Only been about 2 weeks since install and it is working great.

    Great Water Heater!
Great water heater! However make sure you open the box at the store as there were multiple with dents on different water heaters despite having perfect boxes. I found one with a dent the size of a nickel. I told the manager you don't buy a new car with a dent and pay full price, the guy laughed and gave me 10% off.

    So far flawless
Pulled a 1972 A.O. Smith water heater out and replaced it with this one. Install was a breeze, but it's going to have to work flawlessly for the next 44 years to beat the last one's track record.

Lots of hot water, and fast.
Bought this from Home Depot's website (not stocked in any local stores), but had a different contractor install it, since the one HD uses wanted to charge me more for the install (which involved relocating the new unit about 3 feet away from the original) than the unit cost. I saved about $800 by using a different installer and buying most of the parts they needed. It took 2 guys about 5 hours to get the plumbing moved and hooked up, and to get the venting run out the side of the house. Keep in ... read more mind that this unit needs either a concentric termination kit, which makes a 5-1/2 inch hole in your roof or wall, or two separate 2- or 3-inch vent pipes. I already had one 3-inch vent from the original water heater, so I ended up running another alongside it. This unit was an upgrade from a standard 40-gallon unit. Once it was fired up, I had hot water within 45 minutes. The exhaust fan is very quiet. Since the combustion air is drawn from outside, and there is no pilot, there is virtually no chance of a CO leak. The heater is very energy efficient; it has an energy efficiency rating equal to that of many tankless units. I am very happy with this water heater, and look forward to lower gas bills every month.

    Excellent high efficiency water heater
I installed this water heater about a month ago and it's been great so far. I'm an advanced DIYer and I found the installation to be relatively straight forward (read the install instructions first though). It heats water well and has been efficient so far. I used the Rheem SP20286 external vent kit when I put the exhaust and intake lines out. Also be sure to have a place for the condensate can drain to --I have a floor drain that's conveniently close to the water heater. Overall I'm very happy ... read more with this product and glad I installed it myself.

    Efficient and works great
Very pleased with my purchase so far. The price tag is high at first but I think it will make up for it in efficency. I was curious how much the blower would effect my electric bill so I put my Killowatt meter on it and I was happily surprised. With 1 hot shower a day, 2 loads of laundry a week, and 2 loads of dishes it costs ~40 cents/month. I'm eager to see if there is a significant drop in my gas bill next month. I have the heat set to two settings above vacation mode, which should be ~120F, ... read more and it is still scorching hot. I have not heard the unit run unless I am actively using the hot water as well. Directions for installation were simple and easy to understand.

    Very Efficient
I searched for a Short Hot Water Heater and was surprised of how hard it is to find one that is in stock. I was looking for a while when I ran out of time and had to find one fast. Found this one, easy to install and more than worth the price when I look at my savings. I wanted a 50 Gallon but because of time had to get the 40 Gallon. With it working so well, the 40 is better than my old 50 Gallon Hot Water Heater. Energy Star was my requirement also which this product is.

Seems like a great water heater so far.
Purchased it, picked it up and brought it home. Took about an hour to install the pipes/fittings. Once it was installed I filled it and plugged it in. After a few beeps, it fired up and within 20 minutes, HOT water. I used to have about 15 minutes of hot water (40 gal tank) and chase the mixture dial the whole time to keep it hot/warm until nothing but the hot water was on (and it would still go cold within 15 min). Now, I set it at a nice temp and take a 20 minute shower and never have to touch ... read more the hot/cold mixture until I shut it off to get out. Seems like it has hot water forever. No issues so far and I highly recommend it.

The Rheem water heater is working great and we are very pleased with the purchase. We look forward to many years of service.

    Really Saves Energy
Had this for about 5 months. Worked great then the flammable vapor detector failed after about 3 months. Rheem sent a new one out right away at no cost to me. Installed new detector and again working great. Rheem customer service line was very helpful in diagnosing the problem and sending out the replacement part. Would have given it 5 stars except for this problem. Noticeable energy savings compared to the 14 year old smaller capacity unit it replaced.

A simple, cost effective water heater
There are fancier water heaters but this one has what is needed. It works great and recharges quickly, though I really haven't challenged it yet with a house full of people. I done several over the years. This was the easiest. I replaced all connectors so there would be no leaks. That strategy worked. Took about an hour to install - with a large friend to help pick it up. It definitely has more insulation than my old one. Stays cool on the outside. And I like the electronic controlled with the ... read more status light. Maybe I be able to tell when something goes wrong.

    Just Finished Installation
I just finished the incredibly easy installation, total time of install was about an hour. Pilot flame was very easy to ignite (sure beats using matches). I have warm water after about 30 min. of use. I am extremely pleased with our new purchase. After install and the initial start of the burner I sat down and registered the Water heater online which took about 3 Minutes.

Home Depot should consider stocking this item in retail stores!
I did a lot of research before deciding upon the particular model of water heater. It was introduced by Rheem within the last few years but there is little information available about its service history or use. It uses less energy than a 50-gallon unit but produces more hot water in the first hour and the recovery rate is higher than 50-gallon models. It weighs much less, is smaller, and easier to handle. Installation time is the same as larger units. It does require a natural gas outlet, ... read more 110/120VAC outlet, and a 3 or 4 inch double wall vent flue. Once everything was connected and checked for leaks, it was simply a matter of turning a switch to "ON" and the unit lit the pilot and started the burners and motor for the controlled exhaust fan. Once started, it took about 30 minutes for the heater to shut off, signaling that it had completed heating 29 gallons of cold water to 130 degrees F (my selected output). Considering this is an Energy Star rated unit, exceeding new 2015 requirements for water heater efficiency, this seems to be an excellent unit. I think it should be stocked in retail stores.

90 gallons of hot water in a small water heater
I have an older house and when my 25 year old heater went out the new heaters were too wide to fit onto the space. The only heaters that would fit were the 29 gal heaters but that is not enough for my large family. I found this 29 gal 60,000 BTU heater that makes 90 gal of hot water in the first hour. That is more than my old 50 gal heater. I read the reviews and decided to try it. I did the instal myself with the help of my sons with no problems. It works better than I had expected. We have a ... read more large family and we have not tried to skimp on hot water. We have showers, baths, clothes washer, and dish washer all going at the same time and we have never run out of hot water. We can hear it when it is on because it is in a closet in the hall. The fan isn't noisy but we can hear it. It only seems to run for a few minutes after we stop using hot water so it gets all heated up really fast An on demand gas water wasn't an option for us cuz it couldn't keep up with our needs and we would have to run bigger gas lines and special exhaust. This 60,000 BTU heater is a great option for us. I would highly recommend it.

Saving money with more hot water than ever!
a nice fill of the gap between tankless and tank water heaters. now its $100 cheaper too so its a no brainer. fills up super fast and after 3 months the bill is down and the six of us still have all the hot water we need (4 women 2 men) We did have a defective gas valve almost right off the bat and Rheem had it replaced immediately for no charge - easy to deal with, very prompt. all in all I would recommend this water heater to friends and family without hesitation.

    nice hot water heater
Not actually installed in my home. Installed in rental home but tenants are happy with it.

Works great and it doesn't have the same problem like other water heater that I have come across

    Very Good Unit
The water heater was easy to install, and directions for starting the unit were well-written and easy to follow. Everything works as expected. Operations are reasonably quiet, and efficient.

    Seems like a great product
I gave this 5 stars and excellent on everything. I bought and installed it today so not much of a track record here. Easiest install, came with everything except the water flex lines. Quality seems as good as any and at the best price I could find. Burner, pilot and gas valve are very different than what I was use to but very easy to operate. Heated 50 gallons of water in about an hour and very quiet operation. More on this should my rating change in the future.

Converted from tankless to this one
We had a tankless water heater that was not big enough for a family of 5 in our house. After three hours of installation (this was with making modifications to fo to the tank) this unit was ready to go and tool about 45 min to am hour to heat the water. I've had it installed for about a month and can not be happier that I stayed away from going with another tankless heater. Yes it took a bit to initially get lit, but read the instructions and it will light.

    Water Heater with difficult Installation
Because this was a replacement heater, it required a longer time for the plumber to do the installation, which of course cost a lot more. Some of the instructions seemed to be difficult to follow. This plumber had done work for me before and this install seemed to stump him.

    Reliable product
Replaced a Rheem that came with the house. The original lasted 10 years on hard well water. This product was essentially the new model of the old one. I like the changes that they made to the controls/igniter to restart the pilot.

    So far so good.
I replaced an 80 gallon electric (that was still functioning-jjust inefficient). Because I am on a basement, the foundation walls are quite high so I had to source a 4 foot chimney extension from a plumbing supply house but it fit perfectly. Had to put it on a 13" platform to get it to the right height. Overall, it's working great, and with nat gas rates where they are, should save appreciable funds. I thought about direct vent, but that just seemed like more moving parts, more cost, noise ... read more level, etc. So, I would recommend this heater...
