    Vapor sensor failure
I bought 8 months ago. It is definitely an upgrade from our old one, as it puts out a lot more hot water. It seems like it turns on (starts heating water) within a minute of using hot water from a faucet. One disappointing thing was that the vapor sensor failed after 3 months. The result was no hot water. Rheem sent a new one, but recommended that pet food, kitty litter, and cleaning chemicals be removed from the utility room. That was not a practical recommendation, so I may just have to ... read more replace this sensor every so often.

    More good than bad.
I was concerned that it would not deliver as much hot water as an older model with higher BTU's that it replaced. I can honestly say that I have never run out of hot water in more than 4 months. I must also add one of the parts was defective after installation, but Rheem sent out service the same day. The only real complaint is that the service company did not have the replacement part and I had to wait for two days until it arrived and was installed.

Very efficient and quiet - terrific warranty!
We bought this about 6 months ago, after our previous water heater (a different brand) began leaking just a couple of weeks before the 6-year warranty expired. The kicker is that the prior brand's replacement unit only carries the remainder of the initial warranty. Obviously I wasn't going to make that mistake again. After reading many online reviews and reports, I decided to go with this Rheem model. The warranty and terms are terrific! The unit is very efficient, quiet, and extremely simple ... read more to adjust. Based on our experiences so far, I'd definitely recommend Rheem!

    Hot water heater
I will be able to tell you more in a few years, but it looks really good since I installed it. It was easy to install. I had no problems. At the Home Depot store the employees were eager to load it for me. I am 76 and not as strong as i used to be. It was boxed very well and I was able to slide it down the stairs with ease. The hookup was easy. Every thing fit. It was easy to start as it has an elect. start button for ignition. (no more matches). The water temperature is easy to see and it has a ... read more light indicating operational condition so you know everthing is working as it should. A great improvement!

    Installation was a breeze
Installed on copper water lines. Home Depot associate recommended their Shark Bite fittings instead of the 3/4 copper pipe and associated fittings I had in my cart. All said and done, the shark bite fittings were cheaper than the copper and the installation quite literally took 10 minutes. Cut the water lines, push the Shark Bites onto the copper pipes. Move the gas line over to the new unit. Done. Easiest install ever. Pilot light has a piezo igniter on it, so it's a snap to light. Had hot ... read more water in no time. Even got a nice rebate from the gas company. Couldn't have been any more painless.

    Efficient and works great
Very pleased with my purchase so far. The price tag is high at first but I think it will make up for it in efficency. I was curious how much the blower would effect my electric bill so I put my Killowatt meter on it and I was happily surprised. With 1 hot shower a day, 2 loads of laundry a week, and 2 loads of dishes it costs ~40 cents/month. I'm eager to see if there is a significant drop in my gas bill next month. I have the heat set to two settings above vacation mode, which should be ~120F, ... read more and it is still scorching hot. I have not heard the unit run unless I am actively using the hot water as well. Directions for installation were simple and easy to understand.

Lots of hot water, and fast.
Bought this from Home Depot's website (not stocked in any local stores), but had a different contractor install it, since the one HD uses wanted to charge me more for the install (which involved relocating the new unit about 3 feet away from the original) than the unit cost. I saved about $800 by using a different installer and buying most of the parts they needed. It took 2 guys about 5 hours to get the plumbing moved and hooked up, and to get the venting run out the side of the house. Keep in ... read more mind that this unit needs either a concentric termination kit, which makes a 5-1/2 inch hole in your roof or wall, or two separate 2- or 3-inch vent pipes. I already had one 3-inch vent from the original water heater, so I ended up running another alongside it. This unit was an upgrade from a standard 40-gallon unit. Once it was fired up, I had hot water within 45 minutes. The exhaust fan is very quiet. Since the combustion air is drawn from outside, and there is no pilot, there is virtually no chance of a CO leak. The heater is very energy efficient; it has an energy efficiency rating equal to that of many tankless units. I am very happy with this water heater, and look forward to lower gas bills every month.

Actually special ordered RHE50P (LP version)
Installation cost including adding an expansion tank and metal base pan was 600.00. (Westminster, MD). We are only in the first week but for a power vent his is dead quiet compared to my older State Select. Bought over a tankless as contractor said they were not yet ready for prime time and not what many expected as far as "low maintenance". He also said better value and more reliable than AO Smith Vertex. One opinion of course but I thought I would share.

Rheem Performance Platinum 40-gal Short Water Heater
This water heater came fully assembled in the box, and was less than a week from manufacture date. With the higher efficiency, the unit is about 2 inches taller than the circa 2000 versions. Unfortunately, that meant a re-design of the copper tube inlet and outlet runs. I know that lead solder is banned to reduce net exposure, but the alternate solder materials are way more finicky to get a good seal. I now have the situation such that the next unit can grow another 2 inches (about max before it ... read more bumps attic rafters in the above laundry room install location). I used flex copper fittings (15", 18", 24") to connect to cold, thermal overflow, and hot tubes. I used flex stainless for the gas connection. The start-up matched to the instructions, as the first time to light does take longer that expected. The unit includes a piezoelectric spark generator (good bye to matches!!) The unit controller also includes a blinking LED to indicate an active pilot. The unit does not require an electrical connection. The heat settings do not match the specs, as they are a couple of degrees cooler. Thus, I had to use the B setting to get water sufficiently hot at the kitchen sink/dishwasher.

    Rheem Water Heater
Our old water heater was 18 years old and we were having trouble getting enough hot water with four adults in the home. Now we only have problems if two people try to shower at the same time, but the rest of the time, we do not run out of warm water. A 50 gallon may have been better, but wouldn't fit. I hope this water heater can also last 18 years, even though it is only advertised for about 7. Peace of mind now for having to replace a water heater in the middle of winter!

    Tank
This hot water heater replaced my 20 year old one. Was leary on brand due to some negative reviews but I had several large gift cards for Home Depot. Been about a month and seems to give an endless amount of hot water. Hopefully it'll last 20 yrs like my old a. o. smith did.

Great water heater for a home
It took me about an hour and a half to get it home from Home Depot and get it installed. Easy to install, easy to light, and does a really good job or heating the water for my house. I've got it on the lowest setting for hot watter and we can all have a shower or a bath with plenty of hot water. I'm kind of glad my old water heater went out.

    Basic water Heater
Installed easy and was running in less than 3 hours ( most of that was removing old water heater). I was a big improvement over the old Rheem water heater (15+ years old) that was on its last leg. I hope it has a good long life.

    gas water heater
Only gas water heater that would fit in existing area (19 3/4") would have preferred 40 gal unit but none had a width smaller than 20 1/2"

    best ever
Looked at all water heaters in short models. This one installed easily and has the nicest settings for hot water. No one in household is ever stuck for hot water.

    Really Good Product
This unit replaced a 20yr old tank. After 6 months couldn't be happier. Still had hot water in shower after my 2 kids showered and wife ran the dishwasher. Alot of hot water and the temperature is at one of the lowest settings. Putting one in at my inlaws tomorrow.

    Seems like a great product
I gave this 5 stars and excellent on everything. I bought and installed it today so not much of a track record here. Easiest install, came with everything except the water flex lines. Quality seems as good as any and at the best price I could find. Burner, pilot and gas valve are very different than what I was use to but very easy to operate. Heated 50 gallons of water in about an hour and very quiet operation. More on this should my rating change in the future.

    50 GALLON WATER HEATER
The water heater was easy to install. It was easy to set up and start operating. It works great for our needs as we replaced old 40 gallon. This one fit perfectly into place. Within 1 hour we had hot water.

    great water heater
The water heater is doing a great job, it keeps up with my family of 4. The install was pretty easy, if you are installing it in a mobile home without an outside door purchase the base install kit for ventilation purposes.

Good product but not without problems
Water heater was pretty easy to covert the propane, put in place and hook up, but there were problems with the unit itself. Had no problem installing the unit but the pressure relief valve was faulty and dumper a lot of water out before we knew what the problem was. Totally soaked the crawlspace under the home. I contacted Rheem and they immediately sent out a new relief valve by next day air but it still meant that we were without hot water for three days. Wasn't very happy that a brand new ... read more water heater worked worse then the 17 year out one that I was replacing. After the valve was replaced (I had to do that myself since I didn't want to pay the installer to come back) the heater seems to be fine, however the the burner is louder then my old unit, which was also a Rheem. Time will tell if any new problems materialize.
