I used a ryobi for pocket screws, but it would over drive them. The #1 setting on the milwaukee is perfect, easy to control the speed. I used a drill for years on deck screws ( pushing hard and still rounding out screw heads ). I use #2 setting and it just follows them in no pushing hard or stripping the heads. #3 must be for rusty bolts, haven't got that far yet. Only use drill for drilling holes, impact driver for everything else. GREAT TOOL!!!!!

how did I live without it?
After using this impact driver as a companion to my M18 drill for a deck project the last couple of weeks, I'm not sure how I ever got along without it. I had always just used the drill as a driver, but for driving 3" screws into decking and joists, it was going really slow. The impact driver ran the screws down quickly and tightly, and not having to pull out the drill bit and put in the driver bit for each screw saved even more time. I already had a good supply of M18 Fuel batteries and a ... read more charger, so buying the driver a la carte made a lot of sense.

    Good but not perfect
Had this model for the last 5 months and it has been pretty solid. I have combined it with the 4.0 Amp battery and it is very dependable. Although one thing I noticed (as mentioned from other reviews on other sites) the "Control Switch" (Forward/Reverse switch) is in a bad location (very annoying). Many times I have hit the reverse with my grip, at a certain angle. Milwaukee should have had their Engineers look into this design a little more thoroughly. Other than that I would have given 5 stars ... read more for it's durability. Although the Engineers fell short on the Control Switch location. Nevertheless, I would Recommend.

Makes my 14.4 dewalt look like a toy My guys love it
everything about it is great, EXCEPT you cant leave the battery in it during storage. the squeeze trigger light runs the battery down and even when we're using it, the holster keeps the light on. I first bought it because of the battery warranty.

No tool box is complete without it!
Started construction over 15 years ago and ive seen alotta tools come and go. This is a must have for the weekend warriors and the people running em every day! Solid design, independant light switch, belt clip, hex grip which makes for a very comfy handle. *the hex grip does wear down after alotta use BUT the impact keeps laughing at what ever comes it way. If this impact driver could make cuts id have way more room in the tool box! For anyone that hasnt used an impact i suggest you take a trip ... read more to your local home depot and try one of the displays they have, most have a wood bench you can drive some screws into. while your testing this product dont use any force just let the impact do the work it is honestly effortless compaired to your traditional drill.

why didn't I buy it sooner
I've been thinking about buying an impact driver ever since I put new decking on my deck last summer. It wasn't until I decided to redo to the lattice work around the bottom that I decided I had to have an impact driver. Why didn't I buy it sooner? It could've made life so much easier while I was doing the deck, the countless balusters, etc. This is a great deal for an awesome tool.

great tool- bought to replace the one I lost.
I should have bought this in store- I would have gotten a drill with it for the same cost.

    awesome tool
I bought this after a friend (professional carpenter) helped install cabinets in my house. I have always seen impact drivers and thought that they were a waste on the job because a good cordless drill could get the job done. I was wrong because this has quickly become one of the best tools that I own. I have stopped using my cordless drills for driving screws because the impact driver does it so much better. I can honestly say that this is getting more use than I ever realized. The unit can ... read more charge a battery in 20 minutes. It comes with two in the kit, I never have run of out a charge. The power to weight ratio is amazing. After using it all day with remodelling projects, I don't feel it in my shoulders any more. I have been a skeptic about impact drivers for quite some time. I am glad that I was proven wrong. My only regret is that I didn't have the extra $60 to buy a new drill with this. Especially after seeing the reduced charge time.

    18V Impact Driver
This tool is great! It is small enough to fit anywhere but has the power of a large electric impact driver! This tool can do it all, I highly recommend.

    Impact Driver
This tool is the only tool that drives screws and remove screws, without damaging the heads or spinning out of the head groves. It is a nice compact handy tool. The battery last a long time. This is the only tool that you would want for assembly. I can't live without it.

A must have for any tradesman
This tool is amazing. Probably the most amazing thing about it is that it lets you drive screws above your head. I hardly ever strip screw heads with this tool. One nice long term feature is the lithium battery compatability. Since these drills last forever, that will be a nice feateure when the original battery dies. It is loud, so wear hearing protection. I would highly recommend this product.

nice light and strong for it's size
It didn't come with a battery , so I have to give it a good , but the battery I put in from another ridgid tool quit after 1 use , and then would not hold a charge. So far the new battery I had to purchase is doing fine. Time will tell.

Powerful enought for almost every job
I already have the 18v impact driver. It is excellent, but too heavy and bulky to carry on a tool belt. I already have the 9v two speed drill too, but it doesnt' have enough grunt for driving long screws or bolts. The R8223N is an excellent companion to the drill. I wear one on each hip cowboy style and don't have to bother with changing drill bits and phillips bits. Battery life is extraordinary (the new improved ones).

I work as a automotive mechanic. Did a lot of research on different 1/4'' impact drivers & was going to settle for the Makita. FORTUNATELY they were sold out at Home Depot. I was impatient and started looking at what they had to offer in stock. I know my Dad who is a jack of all trades (automotive, construction, plumbing, etc) has a 18V Ridgid drill & he said he loves that tool. So I called him & he said yes Ridgid is a solid brand. I bought and used it today, mannn this thing has got some solid ... read more torque and is very fast! I use it to take off undercarriage bolts & various things off cars @ work. It has plenty of power and is very portable. The light is also very bright and is good for using in dark areas of the car where you can't see. I highly recommend this tool. You will not regret it I promise!

    Dewalt impact driver
Definitely a great product. It's dependable easy to use and light weight but still has some juice to it. My battery can keep me going for a few days too

    Not just for the DIY
This is a great small impact gun, not bulky, I work doing HVAC work, from rooftop units to air handlers in Attics, all held together with 1/4" and 5/16" sheet metal screws. Normally a big old impact gun dosen't fit into these small spaces, but this small compact m12 impact gun will, fits great Into a tool pouch, sometimes you don't always need an 18 volt impact.

    M12 Cordless Impact Driver
This Impact Driver Rocks. I use this everyday and put my M18 Volt Impact down for a rest. Perfect size weight and torque for most jobs.

    Worth the expense!
Bought this for it's use installing gutters. Have been using a "cordless drill" for years as a driver for hard ware. What a difference this tool makes. It's light & easy to use. Got done with the job, (removal & replacement of 50'), still had a full charge. Last work I was doing my cordless drill fell off of the step ladder and "shattered" the battery. The replacement cost of the battery was almost half as much as I spent on this handy driver. Too late smart!
