Safe & Secure
Product arrived safe & secure. Safe comes shipped, bolted to a wooden pallet. Safe is wrapped in a thin, foam type wrap with thicker white foam securing edges & the lock mechanism with a cardboard box over the whole safe. Be aware that the safe is upright when shipped. Product packaging seems secure enough to prevent the safe from scratches, dings, etc... Have a forklife handy to unload this from the delivery truck or have access to a pallet jack. responsible for in regards to loading/unloading at your house. Luckily I had a forklift readily available to unload this from the delivery truck. This is NOT something you want to unload by hand since it weights in at an estimated 700#
Setup: Once unloaded at home an placed into the house, moving it around is a little struggle. Backup a step ... you have to unbolt the safe from the pallet. Have a 17mm socket ready to unbolt from inside the safe. Ok, back to setup. There are no casters under the safe ... I'd imaging this is done to keep others from rolling it out the door! Since I didn't have the help needed to move the safe around, I was forced to try by myself. Don't do it.... I removed the door to lighten up the safe. When open, the door lifts off the two hinges but is still VERY heavy by itself. Managed to move it into position & reinstall the door. The safe includes 4 anchor bolts to secure to a concrete floor. Kit also includes the necessary allen wrench needed to "activate" the safe lock and an interior light. No batteries for the lite or the safe included.
Programming: Programming is fairly simple. Follow the instructions. Always set the combo with the door open & test several times before closing the door. Shutting the door for the first time feels like you'll never be able to get to your items again. Making it open for the first time is a great feeling. Door swings nice and locking mechanism feels sturdy.
The Good & the Not So Good: The door has numerous pockets to store pistols, access & what not. The pistol pockets are a bit small and a little too close together, I felt. The zippered pockets are nice. Would have traded off the sewn pockets & what-not for a way to organize/set my own hangars, pockets, etc... The three long-gun racks are nice. Those too are a little too close together so I had to use every other one & in some cases, every third. Also included are a number of smaller shelves and one long shelf. This will allow the user to customize smaller "cubies" at the expense of a long-gun bay (there are 3 long-gun bays). The case is also wired with a plug for use with a dehumidifier rod (not included). Great add-on item & something I need to still get! Couple tiny issues I found, though. Mine had quite a bit of small wood shavings inside. I presume these were from the installation of the bolts used to secure the crate to the pallet? 30 seconds with a vac. & it was all cleaned up. Not the first impression someone wants after opening the safe. Lastly, was the door closure. When closed & locked, my door will "rattle" at the opposite end of the hinge about 1/8". Makes it feel "loose" and leaves me to ask myself how this would do in a fire. It does not appear to affect the performance of the product but compared to other safes I played with this past weekend, this was the only one on the market that had this much play in the door.
Results: Hard to give a rundown on the full results unless I burn the safe down so for now, I'll trust they would do well. The overall look, feel & operation of the safe earn it a well deserved 4-stars.
