What things should you consider when making a fire escape plan for your family?

·    Be sure everyone knows what the fire and carbon monoxide alarms sound like.

·    Plan for two escape routes from every room.

·    Make a plan for evacuating children who are too small to escape on their own.

·    Be sure that children know that firefighters are their friends and will help them in case of a fire.

·    Plan a meeting place safely away from the home.

·    Make sure windows are accessible. Burglar bars or screens should have quick-release fasteners so that no one will be trapped      inside.

·    Place fire-escape ladders near windows that are high off the ground.

·    Check for the emergency evacuation plan if you are living in an apartment building. It should be posted in every hallway. If not, ask      the apartment manager for the information.
