I really enjoy shopping at Home Depot. I've been to Lowes and no one has asked me if I needed any help, and when I did get the help the associate acted as if he wasn't knowledgeable about his job. I've purchased a washing machine, an electric range and a Moen faucet from Home Depot. Each time I was there I was greeted as soon as I came through the door, got help finding what I was looking for, and the check out experience was good also. This is my new go to place for home needs.

This store is either hot or cold. No, I don't mean temperature wise, I'm referring to the staff quality. Now let me make one distinction, the cashiers and the customer service staff always seem to be friendly and ready to work. The bad generally comes from the departmental staff. Most of the time I find this store either woefully understaffed or (as I suspect) they have employees screwing off. Need help in the plumbing department? Good luck with that, there's no one in a 10 aisle radius of plumbing. Need help in flooring? Well it sucks to be you! Apparently everyone just went to lunch. Need help loading that water heater? Just wait 30 to 40 minutes and someone might respond to a call to the front. Got a question about that lawn tractor? Oh well, sucker! That guy is off until Thursday. I've taken the time in the past to convey these observations through the 'receipt survey' and in a few weeks to a month, things get better. Departmental employees seem more abundant and much more willing to help. Inevitable however, things begin to slip back to, what I can only figure is, operational norm. What I believe is happening is regional management rolls in once enough complaints are logged, they knock some heads, hold some mandatory training and perhaps let a few people go, temporarily scaring the staff straight. Then over time, malaise sets back in and it's business as usual. 14+ years in retail tell me this is due to lack of adequate management. This store is generally clean and organized and most items stay stocked. I'm not so much a fan of the seconds and thirds that get sold as "premium quality" in the lumber department but that's all Home Depot stores now. You know, 2x4's only good for when you want that framed wall to look like some modern art experiment? That's Home Depot quality!
