Copying my letter to the District Manager here describing my amazing experience:
I’m writing to inform you of the exceptional treatment I received at the Leesburg Home Depot store in October and to tell you the team there made a lifelong loyal customer out of me.
I was blown away by the service I received when I brought an aging seven-foot-tall fiberglass statue of a chef to the paint department there for advice on how to restore it. I am a marketing consultant for a French restaurant in Arlington and this was a particularly unusual project I had volunteered to take on - one I’m less than qualified to do.
When I approached the paint counter originally, I asked Larry, the manager on duty, what kind of stripper I could use to remove paint from the statue. He offered to match the paint if I brought in some chips and I offered to bring the entire statue in from my car right then.
Larry happily agreed to come to my car to unload the statue and then took it into the store while I re-parked my car. I learned later that when Larry went into the store with the statue he and the store manager talked and decided to help me with the entire project.
I was shocked and relieved when Larry told me this, feeling like I had won the lottery. The truth is, I didn't know where to start with restoring the statue.
Larry then proceeded to recruit Bob, who was also on duty at the paint counter at the time, and lead the process of restoring the statue right there in the store. Larry chose a cleaning product, Bob matched paints to the statue, and they brought over a cart load of supplies after confirming my budget. For the next five hours Larry and Bob help me meticulously restore the statue, from cleaning years of dirt off of it, to finishing it with a glaze to keep it safe from the elements.
Larry and Bob worked with good cheer and a seemingly endless procession of customers came over to watch us. There was a community atmosphere and the customers watching traded their own do-it-yourself stories with us and each other.
8 hours later the statue was completely restored. I had planned on it taking me 30 hours to complete. The statue needed to dry overnight so the store manager and Larry made arrangements to keep it until the following morning when I picked it up at 6 AM.
The statue is now standing outside of La Cote d’Or Café in Arlington, displaying the daily specials. It looks beautiful and eye-catching, just as the restaurant owner had hoped.
I am eternally grateful to the amazing Home Depot Leesburg team who helped me that day. Larry and Bob gained not only a loyal customer but a friend. I'll be posting on all of my personal social channels as well as the restaurant about the experience.
