I am a boy scout working on my eagle project. The work that I planned to do required me to plant bushes and paint a door. I had no previous experience with what I was doing, and my parents had no experience either. So initially I was lost and frustrated. Then I came to Home Depot to look at the types of bushes available to me for me to plant. I had no clue where to begin. But as I was looking, Ron, an employee, helped me out. He spent an hour advising me on the types of bushes to plant, and the types of soil to use (as well as adamant rejections of chemical fertilizers, which Home Depot also sells). He gave me a packet detailing soil. From him, I also learned of different categories for plants, such as deer resistance, sunlight or shade, drought resistance, height, spread, flowering or not, which were helpful in helping me decide what bushes to plant for my project. He also gave me a very handy formula for calculating how many cubic feet of mulch/compost I would need for my project.
There was a lady that worked in the paint department (sorry I forgot her name) that was helpful to me in selecting paints. I was previously completely lost in this process, but she taught me how the paint doors, and what products were required to do it. From her, I learned about the difference between latex and oil paints, as well as the different sheens of paint. It was all extremely helpful knowledge.
Finally, one of the assistant managers here, David, helped me financially with my project, contributing $170 worth of products at no cost. The products included Behr Marquee paint, Kilz primer, paintbrushes and paint roller kit, 2 soaker hoses, 20 bags of mulch, sandpaper, and painters tape. This helped me so much financially in project, as I was afraid I wouldn't raise enough funds from fundraising.
All in all, great experience at Home Depot. The people are super helpful, and always leave me a happy person.
