Despite the fact that we are doing a complete renovation of our home, and despite the fact that prior to 3 months ago we have spent thousands of dollars this year at Home Depot, today was my first trip to HD since September.
We learned on Veterans' Day 2015 that my husband would need to obtain a Veteran's ID in order to be granted the appropriate discount each time we shopped. No problem! We made the required visits to the Veterans' Administration with the proper documents and obtained the ID. My husband took the additional step of visiting the Motor Vehicles Dept. in our town to have his license re-done, adding a "V" to indicate his veteran's status.
With both these ID's in hand, we went shopping at the Home Depot in Stuart. We picked out baseboards and molding, 2 different colors of paint, selected a new refrigerator and stove, and added some live goods and soil to our day's "haul". When the cashier was preparing to ring up our purchases, she told us the Veteran's ID was not valid and the "V" on my husband's license was insufficient to be granted the 10% discount.
SERIOUSLY??? OK, may we please speak with your supervisor? Sure, no problem.
The supervisor arrived, took a look at the ID's and declared they were insufficient, that the Veteran's ID was supposed to have an additional notation on it regarding retail shopping and refused to listen to what we were saying.....was she aware that NO Veteran's ID's are produced by the VA without the proper Honorable Discharge documents? No only would she not listen, she was abrupt - she simply repeated over and over what the HD policy is and that we had not met the requirements.
We left our selected items at the register an went to Lowe's, where we have now purchased the baseboards and molding for our entire house, new appliances, flooring for the entire house, and live goods for the outside. Prior to this incident and shoddy treatment, Home Depot was our "go to" store. No longer. I went today because I had a merchandise credit.
Why has it taken me so long to report this? It has taken me 3 months to cool off from that incident.
