This product is very substandard and insanely expensive for basically being dirt in bag. I have attached a pic with the greyish base from the masonry supply on the right side of the black line which was like $33 a yard vs like $200 a yard in multiple bags from home depot. And more importantly the masonry supply base needed just 10 taps in each area and it settles solid like concrete. The one on the left of the black line which is more brownish in color is the home depot base which even after 20 taps in each area does not settle into solid base. It still feels a bit wobbly. I am gonna have to get some cement and mix in with that to get a solid base. What a waste of time and money. Please call your local masonry supply and get this thing delivered to your project area. You will save a ton of money and have a quality product.

Terrible paver base. Full of garbage including rocks over 1 inch in diameter as well as spongy, tar-like material.
Standard sand bags, or what they call 'sand-in-a-tube' at Menards is a far superior product and value.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by PaverGuy The large rocks it contains are critical!
The larger size rocks this stuff contains are needed to add "beef" to your base material and without them, all you have is large size sand and you end up with nothing. The sand isn't really sand but is fine crushed concrete that surrounds and sticks to the larger pieces to form a solid base. The guys who are giving this product a bad review because of the large size pieces don't have a clue what they are doing. I use 90% base (step 1) and just a little sand on top (1/4 inch or so). Then that baby is solid! Spray it with water and this stuff hardens up like a brick. Super strong base for pavers or anything else that needs support.

Very poor product, I was buying the paver base at Lowes however, they ran out. I went to Home Depot for their paver base. The rocks in the bag were 1-2 inches, when you are trying to get a smooth base these large rocks are to big, I dug out some of the Lowes paver base put the HD product in the hole and utilized the Lowes product, I also found some trash in some of the bags - could work with the trash, fortunately only needed 7 bags to finish my project otherwise I would have pursued another source

It pretty much looks like someone swept the floor and put it in a bag, the bags I got were mostly crushed pavers and sand. Do yourself a favor and buy something else this stuff is absolute garage...literally

I read the reviews of this product and was wary of the problems described. I went to my local HD and checked the bags they had in stock. Fortunately they were filled with fine crushed rock - no large pieces, which is exactly what you need to create a level base for pavers. Easy to use, I apply it by hand and add or subtract as needed. All good.
I notice that the website says "product may vary by store." I' guessing that's what the issue is - some local supplies of rock are not as good as others.

Bought 5 bags, and had five helper empty the bages. Bages contained rock pieces over 1/2 inch in size (1/3 of the bag) with the remainder being dirt and crushed material. Seem like a pick 5 bags that were refilled and sealed from broken bags. Not a good but for my time and effort- and not worth returning !
