the filter is a 1 1/2" PVC filter. The specifications do not give an inlet/outlet I.D. the overview says to use 3/4" thru 1 1/4" PVC. Is this a type-O. Can I use a 1 1/2" PVC pipe?

Answer:
when you pick up the filter from the store, get 1 1/2" male adapters and check for proper pipe size, you don't want to downsize the pipe due to restricting the flow.

I'm looking for something to filter sediment from my sprinkler lines. I'd like to install this filter beneath the ground, but if the visible part needs to be oriented downwards, I'd have to dig pretty deep. Can it be installed with the visible filter part oriented sideways?

I have an irrigation system with misting sprayer nozzles that clog every few months. Would this work with water drawn from a pond or will the mesh in the filter be constantly clogging?

Answer:
SomeOldEngineer, any filter will require periodic cleaning, but it's well worth it to have one. Since a filter is that single point of interaction, you'd only have to clean the filter. That is a far better time-saving and more effective option than having to unclog or flush an entire filter-less sprinkler system on a regular basis. Specifically, will the 1-1/2 inch clear filter case mate up to the Rusco base? Rusco parts are far more expensive but appear to be the same as those Home Depot sells. Thanks!

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by very useful I really did not know i needed it but was recommended by a Hme depot associate. I had previously had issues with sediment closing sprinkler heads and would have to open and clean them. I connected this in line and see some small sediments already collected in the filter and it is easy to clean. good buy. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Sediment Filter for landscape water system After laying new sod around newly built shop, installed a sprinkler system in soil and around top of chain link fence, so not to have to pull hose around to water. From a well water source, sediment was causing sprinkler heads and timer input screen to clog. Solution was to install a sediment filter in line with the well water. It's all automatic now!! Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works great! It's keeps all the sand and debris out of all your sprinkler heads so it's a huge advantage to install one! With that being said you do have to clean it because it will get green with algae and the other debris. Once a month I take it off and take off the 2 o-rings and fill it with bleach to kill the algae, I then wash it very well and fill it with vinegar to dissolve the scale/lime I then scrub the filter with an old tooth brush and it's as good as new. Also I suggest putting a dark sock over the filter housing this will help from the algae build up and also the UV rays from deteriorating the unit. It all sounds complicated but it's really not, it's much easier to clean 1 filter then go around cleaning all your sprinkler heads!! I have had this installed for 3+ years and it's working like it was the day I put it in! Attached is a pic of the unit after a fresh cleaning. I took 1 bar off for the "value" only because I feel like the price is kind of steep. August 1, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works Great This filter is doing a great job of filtering out sediment from my well so that my irrigation system works without a hiccup!! August 7, 2012
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Works well so far Installed between water tank and pump. Didn't seem to restrict flow noticeably. August 18, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly what I needed I have exactly the same unit on my sprinkler system. The plastic cover cracked after 15 yrs. I bought the unit and replaced the plastic cover. May 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product This is a very cleverly designed product and well worth the small cost. After adding a new water well, we were getting small sand sucked up into our pump, which fouled several attachments. This unit solved the problem instantly and easily. Quick installation, see through construction, everything required in the box, including teflon tape. Made in the USA is only another great perk. I have already recommended this product to friends. Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by product was fine... product was not as advertized-it was not threaded pipe couplings as the description stated but was glued pvc which was not a problem except that it cost more money to do acct. pvc fittings and glue, which I had to buy. everything else was great including the shipping which was very timely...hire someone to check to see if description matches item...
