When I bought mine in December 2008, the warrant was lifetime. Home Depot confirms this. If/when the pump dies, bring it in for a similar replacement.

Answer:
First - Unplug the pump & verify you have power at the plug for the pump.
Second - Disconnect the pump discharge pipe at the lowest possible elevation where you can direct the flow back into the tank or basin.
Third - Plug the pump back in and start it by manipulating the on/off float or turning it on manually. If it flows fast and steady, reconnect. If it doesn't flow at all, disconnect from the power

Third - Plug the pump back in and start it by manipulating the on/off float or turning it on manually. If it flows fast and steady, reconnect. If it doesn't flow at all, disconnect from the power again and check the impellor to see if its bound up by debri. If the impellor will spin easily, but the pump still doesn't discharge water, it may be the pump. If it ran water when disconnected, but still doesn't run when connected, you could have a bad check valve upstream or the pump can't discharge against the head (back pressure) on it. Consult a plumber, pump service company, or engineer at that point.
Hope that helps. Read Less

A previous question asked what type of oil is appropriate for this pump. A response said that the oil used in the pumps is dielectric or transformer oil. Does this pump need to have oil added to it?

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.3 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Clear Water Pump Great pump for use as a basement sump pump. Just retired it today after 11+ years of regular and heavy use. Still worked, but a switch became somewhat unreliable, so decided to pull it instead of risking total failure. March 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very dependable pump I've had this pump for just about 8 years. Very dependable pump. The pump gets quite a workout. Not only rain water from the house tile, but also a finished basement with dual head shower, sink and toilet all feeding into the sump pit. This 1/2 HP pump empties the pit in just seconds. Would replace with another Rigid sewage pump in a heartbeat. September 19, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Warranty We purchased this pump about 6 years ago to service a lower level bathroom and bar drain that is used only occasionally. It quit working during the recent holidays. It just hummed, but would not engage. The float switch was not the problem. We called our local Home Depot, we were told to cut the cord off the pump, bring just the cord in and we would receive a new pump. The lifetime warranty worked great at the store, no need to send anywhere for warranty service! It cost us nothing. We even got a new receipt with the replacement date, also showing the new (higher) price for any future warranty problems. The warranty on this pump is great. January 13, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 1/2 HP submersible sewage pump Time will tell on the quality of this pump. If it last at least 5 years as other brands have I will be pleased. Can not submit a photo of the pump as it is at the bottom of a overflow septic tank. June 9, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by not worth it The pump seized up shortly after warranty, the cord installation was a problem, the company was no help over phone. in my opinion the product was not worth the price. March 16, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Lifetime Warranty excludes "wear and tear" after only a few years. We paid extra ($319 on 9/12/2010) for this because of the "Lifetime Warranty." We never expected that just four years later it would fail completely, and the company would leave us out in the cold. I will never buy a RIDGID product again, nor will my six adult kids, and we'll swear them off for the grandkids too when they come along. A company that won't stand by its warranty needs to be avoided. Period. Time to head to a real plumbing supply house for a reliable brand. October 21, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Pump seized up I only had this pump for 4 years and it no longer works. This pump only has a 3 year warranty. Paying over $200.00 I would think it should last longer. I'm now going with a different brand that has a lifetime warranty for only a few more dollars. Don't waste your money on this pump. July 13, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Sewage Pump Pump arrived a few days after ordering. Box wasnt damaged, but inside a few of the fins were damaged. Plastic case, not broken into the body to damage seal - so OK, but would have expected better packing or inspection to ensure this didnt happen. Bought this pump as the store version had bad reviews for the sewage sensing switch. This pump was 120 cheaper and had the float switch. Store version was cast iron, but weighed a ton - so it would have been difficult to place inthe sump. No problem with this unit. Installed easily, no problem with initial service, has been running fine for a couple of weeks now without problems. Good value for the money. Has a lifetime warrently - so that is good, although not sure what it means by normal wear and tear excluded. Is the pump motor considred a "normal wear" item? April 20, 2009
