specifications of this pump

The dimensions give a height of 8.4" That can't be right. It must be at least 32" or more. The width dimension is given at 8.5" Then why is a basin of 14" width needed? My basin is 10.3" at the bottom . Will it work?

1/3 HP Cast Iron Pedestal Sump Pump is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 31.

My new Wayne SPV500 pump didn't work. installed it. plugged it in and tried it and the pump was seized, wouldn't pump. all I got was the motor making a humming noise so I returned it and will try another manufacturer. I talked to Wayne customer service and they said that they are not making pedestal sump pumps anymore. The one I received was made in China and apparently their quality control is not adequate. And, even though the motor was rated at 1/3 hp, the actual rotor and stator in the motor were much smaller that the same part in my old Wayne SPV500 pump that I had used for years.

I bought this pump as I had a Wayne pump in the past that lasted a long time. I had read some reviews regarding this model and how it seems that the quality has dropped since they are being made in China, but I figured that since my old one worked fine for a long time, that this one would also. Well, spent an hour removing my old one and installing this one, and when I plugged it in. all it would do was hum - the motor wouldn't even turn. Bummer! I guess I'll try another manufacturer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed Had to replace my Wayne sump pump after 20+ years. Decided to stick with Wayne since our old one held up so well. Got it installed and tested, but on the 3rd test it failed and wouldn't turn on again. Our old one was made in USA but the new one was made in China. No longer a quality product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great when it works This pump has been great when it works, however I had to buy this pump to replace the exact same pump that failed just after two years. The failed pump had no obvious issues, seems like the motor might have burned out. I certainly think that it should have lasted longer than that. I have friends with the exact same pump and theirs have been working flawlessly for over 4 years. so I decided to replace it with the same model and so far it has worked on the one occasion where we got a real heavy rain recently. They say you should have a backup pump, I didn't and it came back to bite me. Overall though I would still recommend this pump, it did a great job until it failed and the new one seems to be great so far.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good pump but bad float switch The over all pump design is good and works fine but it has a weakness in the float switch. I have a large basement and I had three Wayne pedestal pumps installed in different corners. All three float switches failed after about five to six years of normal use. They would not shut off but keep running continuously after the water was pumped out. I contacted Wayne to get a replacement float switch and found they were available but the cost was more then half the price of what I initially paid for the pump. This was aggravating especially given the fact they must know that this is a common problem. I will never buy another Wayne sump pump based on the failure rate of the float switch and the high cost to replace the switch.
