I purchased this item to use as a water supply line to the ice-maker in my new refrigerator. I noticed on the box, that it has several uses listed, and none of them are for water, so I wanted to make sure it was okay to use for a potable water supply line.

Thank you!

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by This is the good stuff My dad installed a copper water line to our icemaker. After many years the line sprung a couple of pinhole leaks, wetting the floor. Good thing I was home, otherwise the floor would have been soaked - or worse. I learned that having water too hard or too soft is corrosive to copper. This is because of extreme ph levels. I also learned that there are different grades of copper tubing - thicker wall/thinner wall, hard/soft. When I inspected our old copper line, I discovered that it was the thinner walled variety and I saw corrosion eat through the tubing where the pinholes were. I did a web search - "icemaker water line copper pinhole leaks". I was surprised that this kind of leakage was not unusual. I thought about getting a different material for the water line but other materials have their shortcomings too. Did you know a stainless steel water line is just a vinyl hose covered with braided steel strands? The heavy duty poly lines came in lengths too short for my needs - and is expensive. I decided to get a thick walled / soft copper water line and found this one at HD. It was not located where the other icemaker lines were but where the copper pipes are - in plumbing. Man, this line is SUBSTANTIALLY thicker and has a 50 year warranty. I guess I should leave a note on the fridge along with the receipt just in case... July 1, 2016
