What does the BC stand for?

I am installing a new bathtub suround and it asks me to put up 1/4 inch thick furring strips on the studs first,I would like to use plywood instead,to make the suround firmer. What comes in 4 by 8 sheets that is .25 thick that I can use?
Asked by: fluf
BC stands for interior grade plywood with one side having a "B" finish and one side having a "C finish. I personally would NOT use this particular product in a bathroom. The glue is NOT moisture resistant and you will likely have expansion issues in the long run. BTW, "1/4" in this industry does not really mean 1/4" in most cases. Also, most furring strips are nom. 1 inch (3/4 - 13/16) thick. Are you sure they meant 1/4"?

Could this be used as wood flooring? Would look great for a country style home. I'm considering this as opposed to tile.

If I cut each sheet into my size width and length, I'm thinking this will work but does anyone have suggetions or thoughts on this?
Asked by: Cynthia
The thickness is not consistent between sheets.

This plywood ( at least what is carried in The State College, Pa. store) is not 1/4 inch. It is actually 5/16 inch. If the thickness dimension is important in your application better be aware.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for shiplap without the cost of actual shiplap! Used 1/4 in. plywood ripped down into 6 in. pieces to construct a shiplap wall. Was very smooth to begin with but ran over it with a palm sander to smooth the edges that we cut. Also used 1x4's, 1x6's, and 1x4's that we ripped down to 1x2/s from Home Depot for the baseboards and window trim. Love it all!

This is the only way I can think to describe it. You can attempt to lay it flat and it will pop up in another area. The thickness is not consistent between sheets. I would not use this product on another project.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not much to say here... It's plywood and it works. Used it to line the inside of my shed. Pretty straightforward stuff and didn't deal with a lot of splintering which I've had with other thinnish plywood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good quality Three years ago I bought three sheets of this plywood for a small dinghy (boat) project. The boat project aborted and I used the but plywood to build compost bins (with other wood frame). The bins are outdoor and stand strong; there is no sign of deformation or rot. There some pieces of 1" - 2" wide x 1' long left next to the bins over the years. A few days ago I tried to break one of them by hand, then by fold it and pressed down on the driveway with my foot. It did not break.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT for exterior use... Although the description indicates this material can be used for exterior applications, this is not the case. I purchased several sheets of this and stacked it up overnight just prior to a rain. The next afternoon I went to start my project and noticed that the plies were separating on the top sheet. I made the long drive back to HD and exchanged it with no problem for a perfect sheet of plywood. I threw it on the pile as it was too late to get started. The next morning, after the dew had dried, that new sheet was coming apart too... Needless to say the entire stack went back! Plywood should be able to make it through a light evening dew for one day without the glue failing... Beautiful plywood if the humidity is right, but very poor quality.
