Customer Questions & Answers

Can this material be painted?

Asked by: Kathy
The other answers are misleading. It CAN be painted. Realistically anything can be painted. But I advise, if you plan on painting it, first sand it very well with 100 grit, then clean with denatured alcohol, mineral spirits, etc. I read these answers that sounded like it took paint well how it is, and even using Behr's best paint with primer, I just spent 2 hours peeling the old paint off so I can prep it and and repaint it. Normally I would have sanded it first. Lesson learned.

does this product work well for outdoor use?

Asked by: LOTHC
No. It is made to use indoors. Inside, however, it is very versatile.

Can this be stained? If not, how dark is it? I am looking for a medium brown.

Asked by: Blake
It can be stained if using a stain mixed with polyurethane. There is no grain to absorb the stain like on real wood, but with a poly mixture, it should adhere to the panels.

Hi Steve, This paneling is prefinished and cannot be refinished, or stained. It has a simulated finish. Mike

This product falls far below the expectation for quality expected from the Home Depot. Dont get me wrong, it's very pretty, but a pig in a tuxedo is still a pig. Looked great when first installed, next morning, there was nothing but warp and ripples. If this product is that sensitive to climate changes, perhaps it should be labeled as such. First time purchasing this garbage, and the last time. I will be returning the unused portion. I ended up using underpayment, which after a light sanding and staining, looked way better than this item, and it was only a few cents more expensive. Please carefully consider this product. It's not as easy to use as it seems and it's hardly worth the effort.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Poor Quality Of my 30 years experience this paneling has got to be the worse paneling I have ever used. It is very thin. When purchasing I thought I could make sure there were plenty of blocks in the paneling but to my surprise that didn't work. After installation I returned the next day to find that it had warped so bad that it had pulled the staples through the boards. I never will buy again.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from What I expected for being cheap It is what it is. It is super thin. 2 days after hanging, BEnds like crazy while trying to hang it. Is nice though carrying through small doorways because you can just flex it around corners. I find myself going back and renailing everywhere because it flexes really bad with any change in temp. I would spent the extra few bucks per sheet and get a little better quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow!!! Amazing Product I am so thrilled. But don't take my word for it. A picture is worth a thousand words (below). I saw this product and had to try it as flooring because the flooring materials were outrageously expensive and hard to work with and messy and sticky. This exceeded my expectations and my family's beyond imagination! It is just beautiful. If you mess up a piece (my son scraped a section moving the fridge) you can just pull it up and replace it. Nail it down. No glue. Sturdy. And visitors swear it is wood flooring because it has faux grain patterns. One friend reached down and felt it... :) It is nice and silky feeling. Water resistant. Can damp mop right over it or vacuum. It has no odor at all. We had horrible flooring, so we chose to pressboard underneath to even it out. The entire room cost under $45 with 4x8 sheets, so we did the entire house. Put an area rug in the living room so now it is an excellent and comfortable living space. It is not heavy at all. You can cut it with a straight razor and break to size or with a saw for perfect edges. But it is very strong. My son is rough and tough and has dropped hammers on it with no damage (so far). Plus, our power bill is already lower because it insulated the floors. Excellent, excellent!!! Can't say enough.
