Customer Questions & Answers

Is a chip brush good f I r use with oil based paints?

Asked by: Me
Chip brushes as the name implies are used to brush oily, metal chips from a mill or lathe to clear the work piece for measuring. The brushes are made with coarse animal bristles that are stiff and oil resistant. Because they are cheap and solvent proof, many home owners use them with oil based paint, and throw them away. Bristle fallout and rough finish are the brushes short comings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don;t set your expectations high This brush has one intended use; cheap finishes! Bristles will fall out in the paint. It is a cheap brush ideal for certain uses. Leaves streaks in the paint/primer but I knew that going into my project. I find these great for projects where I don;t need a fine quality finish. Sometimes I prefer fast & easy over slow & fine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Brush These are good, basic brushes. We have used them for years without complaint. Like the natural bristles. We use them for paint, varnish and dusting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality/value These brushes are perfect for jobs that you need a disposable for and small touch ups where you might want to clean them up after. I found after repeated use bristles stay intact. I've used them for jobs using Marine Resin to latex paint and have been very satisfied.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Inexpensive, Get What You Pay For It works great in sweeping off wood chips, dust and what have you. Wouldn't use it for painting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for the job Bought this paintbrush to touch up small spaces. It worked well and at this price was disposable.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth it This product is not worth it! You are better off using a rag than this brush. There are very few bristles, they are not as compact as a quality brush. As a result each brush stroke leaves it looking streaky. Also since there are comparatively less bristles paint easily drips out when you load the brush. Don't bother with this.
