Customer Questions & Answers

I'd like to use this to hang a curtain. Can the ends be threaded to fit a flange?

Asked by: ConiS
Conduit is too thin to thread for any standard flanges, they are usually heavy pipe thread. You could possibly find a flange just a little too large for the size conduit you are using and just allow the conduit to rest in them. Or use a plastic flange and drill the threads out of it 1. Mount the first flange. 2. Cut the pipe to the precise length, and rest it inside the flange. 3. Then screw the other end flange to the wall with the conduit in it. If you are using non-removable curtain rings, don't forget to put them on the conduit first, lol.

What type of metal is it made of and can it be welded?

Asked by: Earl
Galvanized steel. It can be welded but you need to have PPE to avoid metal fume fever. It is very thin walled. I've toured one of the mills that make this and other steel pipe / tube.

Can i order this in a 20' piece?

Asked by: Bob
I've been in the pipe and tube industry for 35 yrs. I toured Allied Tube and Conduit as their guest some years ago. Conduit cannot be supplied in lengths longer than 10'-0", unless you are ordering a whole lot of it. I'm talking a truckload, 40,000 lbs. Use couplings or use steel pipe, which is supplied in longer lengths (up to 21'-0" normally) The "community" answer is misleading. *Moderators - fix the community answer and delete this line.

1 in. EMT Conduit is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as Expected When using the conduit for electrical work, it works exactly as expected. Not much else you can elaborate on. However, there are many other applications that it can be used for, it's just a matter of what you are trying to do. I cut (10) sticks down to 40" each (3 per stick) and placed them around the inside edge (spaced every 36") of a raised planter in our backyard. I left 16" above ground, the remaining 24" was set in concrete below grade. I then drilled 1/4" holes, 1" down, 6" down, and 11" down from the top. Lastly I strung 1/8" wire rope through the openings, and secured at the ends with turnbuckles. The end result was a very modern looking fence / barrier, which purpose is to keep our dogs out of the planter. To purchase this type of fence would have been 20 times more expensive, at least. Cheers!
