Customer Questions & Answers

Is the top of windmill effected by wind? Does it moves when the wind blows?

Asked by: CowboySoul1
Yes, the 'propeller' part with the fan blades spins very well and it take very little wind to start doing so! Also the entire top will turn to face which every direction the wind is blowing because of the tail fin. Just remember not to tighten the bolt too tight on the propeller when assembling it so it can spin!

Is this item difficult to assemble?

Is this item difficult to assemble?
Asked by: Chris
It is not difficult as everything is precut and predrilled to fit. The head is one piece and attaches to the main bracket with one nut. It should take the average person about an hour to two hours to do the full assembly and anchoring.

What wind velocity will it withstand without being damaged (approximately)

Asked by: Georgie
I think it will withstand a pretty high velocity of wind before it would be damaged. I assembled mine about a week ago and have had some pretty strong winds and the windmill hasn't even budged. Because the tail fin spins the propeller around to the proper direction, the chances of it being damaged or blown over are slim.

The parts are not marked and it is very time consuming to figure them out. The picture is very deceiving. It makes the windmill look bigger and nicer then it is. Probably 20 dollars worth of materials for 300 dollars is a ripoff. All I got was two splinters and aggravation. I took it back to the store for a refund.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really fun to build and appreciate. After laying out all of the parts and examining them for any sign of damage (shipped via UPS) I followed the instructions and in six hours we had ourselves a beautiful windmill. The side benefit was that it gave me a sense (small scale) of what it must have been like for a farmer or rancher to build a windmill that was actually functional and had a purpose. Living in a rural setting on an island in Washington State this added character to our two acres......

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Windmill, few flaws Overall this windmill is a good product, but I was disappointed concerning a few things. The windmill arrives in pieces in a large box about 70lbs and 4 feet long, so be careful where you ship it, b/c it won't fit in the back of a car easily! The wood is poor quality, which I read about on prior reviews but took a chance anyway. It is stained sloppily and there is definite flaws in the wood such as dark spots. Surprisingly though when putting it together the wood didn't fracture or split which is a plus. In terms of assembly, I'm 110 lbs, 5 ft. 2 and I was able to put the majority of the product together myself. The only times I needed help was putting the propeller together and lifting it up on top and holding down the wood on one side when placing the cross beams, the wood has to bend a little bit...the directions to assemble the windmill aren't super great, but it's not rocket science to figure it out. Also, on the description of the product it says no drill required, that is a lie. Holes are not predrilled on the 4 main support beams of the windmill which everything hooks too, so that adds a lot to the assembly time. Another thing I wasn't happy about is that the propeller itself is not what is advertised in the picture!! There is no wire thing linking the blades of the fan and the blades are shaped a little different as well. I strongly dislike the ugly 'water solutions' logo on BOTH sides of the propeller which was also not evident in the pictures online too. One of the blades also arrived with a big scratch on it. The anchoring system just involves places a screw like mechanism on each of the four legs 4'' above the ground in which metal poles then slide though and you can hammer them down. Overall, it is a good product for the price, a bit of a challenge to put together, but the propeller spins very nicely and takes little wind at all to do so! I think overall it is pretty sturdy, it would take some really really heavy winds to shift it if you set it even and put in the anchors well.
