Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by legend for those who cant fit a 4x4 post inside
big box stores sell actual 4x4 posts and then they sell the 4x4 like other dimension lumber. I brought my tape measure with me to make sure the 4x4's I bought were actually 3.5 x 3.5 which fit perfectly in these blocks.
I think the manufacturer meant the later, or the dimensional 4x4 fits. I built a deck 6x14 and these saved a tone of work and my local code officer approved them in advance as I had asked before making a purchase.

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Megabyte Yup, they are right, too small
Wish I read reviews before purchasing. They look like they will fit a 4x4, but are 1/4 inch too small. I ended up using a 2x4 and trimming it down to fit in only for stability and no ground contact on a generator deck. Do not use for a real deck!

Bought 12 of them for a deck- too small. Not sure yet if I'll taper the ends or return it.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by FadiTara Horrible qualty control
These are designed to fit a 4x4 post. They don't. I already had them out in a remote area to build a temporary stand up off of the ground for winter. I had 6 of these. And all 6 of them didn't fit a 4x4 post. I had to trim down each post about 1/4" (final measurement was 3.25x3.25") so they would fit. If it wouldn't have taken me less time to trim the posts than to return these to HD, I wouldn't have bothered.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Jude Used to "anchor" bird feeder
I have in ground bird feeders that are quite heavy. We have raccoon baffles on the feeders so the squirrels and raccoons can't get to the seed. I have one of these at the base over the support L-arm and I surround it with concrete blocks so I have something to stand on the reach the feeders. Works so good I am getting another block for another feeder! Of course it wasn't an easy task to install this but it's worth it.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by JimU DO NOT BUY!!!!
I bought 37 of these to finish a pool deck. The blocks I started with were out of stock at another store. This block is specified to receive a 4x4 support post. The first post I tried to install split the block in two. Subsequently EVERY block thereafter had to be chiseled out to receive the 4x4 post. This added days and a great deal of misery to the project.I would NOT recommend this product to anyone unless of course you are trying to hone you chiseling skills.

Needed additional support footings for a 23 foot tall tree house. They worked great. It's been 2 years now and they are still set in place, no cracks. Also used them last year building a shed

I used a couple of them to hold fence posts for a 3 foot "privacy fence" and no issues yet.
