The older version (I can't be sure this is exactly the same) is 22" long, not the 21" listed.

Answer:
I'm not sure of actual weight capacity, but I have filled a couple full of books. That being said, I have had one that the sides bowed out from having weight on top when stacked. I've also had one that cracked a lid due to weight (it was on the bottom of a stack of four bins tall). All in all, I probably would not place more than 30-40 lbs in each tote with higher weights on the bottom when stacked.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Horrible quality too expensive Cheap quality they are broken after 4 days Not what they use to be too expensive Home Depot bring back the good quality ones January 14, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Replaced a Good Crate with an Inferior Product I bought a ton of these crates a few years ago - they were heavy duty and lasted (still going strong). When I returned to get a more a year or two later I noticed they were a cheaper plastic but still decided to give them a try (despite the price going up too). It seems that Home Depot started making this product, vs. selling the higher quality item made by another company. These new ones are really cheap and flimsy - Now ALL of my newer crates are busted, despite having years of less use than the old kind. Even with hardly any weight you can't make a stack of two or three! The tops bust around the hinge and sort of cave in. It's very disappointing. Pretty representative of the general decline of quality in America and companies making things cheaper and cheaper. Don't think people don't notice -- because we do. I will not buy this product ever again. October 24, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by 1 star as commercial, 3 star as residential These totes are absolutely not commercial grade. I wouldn't stack them more than 3 or 4 high depending on the weight of the items inside. I had one split down the corner and another started bulging with less than 25 pounds on top of it. If your looking for totes similar to what retailers ship items in, these are not it. Search for "Distribution Tote with hinged lid" and expect to spend around $20 each. THOSE are commercial grade. You can store 100 pounds in each and stack them 4 high. If you plan on storing light items and going 1 or 2 high, these will probably work ok for you, but you can get totes for $5-6 for that purpose. Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not 'commercial' grade The "commercial" description of the item is not really applicable. It is not a heavy duty type of container as the plastic durability is not that tough. I had planned to use a bunch of these to store and lug tools, paint cans etc., which can still be done but I don't expect the container to last long. If you need a tote that will store things like Christmas decorations, this is fine. Or, if you do not plan on moving/transporting it around a lot, obviously it will hold up better. You have to be careful stacking things on the closed lid, as heavy objects may cause the flip top to sag. January 22, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not good anymore A few years ago I bought about 30 of these over the course of a summer, as I had built custom shelving and printed big labels to organize my various projects and generally get my life in order (well, somewhat in order anyway!) Near the end of the summer, they switched the same UPC barcode to a similar product- made in usa. The new ones do not stack with the old ones, and are made of a thinner plastic. The lids are not reinforced as much, and the hinges tend to break. The old ones were made in canada. I find myself looking for more of these- but wont buy the ones the depot sells anymore. These cost 10 a pop- but are worth maybe 5. The old ones were easily worth 8 or 9. July 6, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by much better than cardboard boxes This a a standard plastic tote box in opaque gray plastic. The website makes it look transluscent - it is not. I like the attached lids - you can't loose them. These are not really tough enough for heavy outdoor use, but for indoor storage they are ideal - they nest for compact storage when empty, and stack when loaded, and will never rot out and spill everything like a cardboard box inevitably will. Transparent models let you see what is inside, but the transparent plastic is not as tough and impact resistant. 12 gallons is the perfect size for the car - fits right behind the back seat in the hatch. That is where this one is going to spend most of its time, and the fact that you can't see what's inside is a plus. December 22, 2014
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Not commercial but fine for home use I would have given this four stars if it wasn't advertised as commercial grade, because it is not. But for general storage in your garage this is just fine. We have one full of Christmas ornaments and I love that the lid is attached and they stack easily and are a nice size. The bigger totes can get too heavy when I fill them up, so this is a nice size for me to be able to lift up onto the garage storage. I feel that there are other totes similar in size though for a little less. I would be happier with the price if it was really commercial grade. January 6, 2015
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by OK, but flimsy These are ok but don't try and stack them with too many containers on top of each other. They are nowhere as good as the ones in the past and be sure to carefully inspect EACH ONE when you buy them. Some have cracked plastic, broken hinges or other defects. Hey Home Depot! I'd pay more for a better container! April 13, 2015
