Customer Questions & Answers

What is the standard grade for incomeing drain pipe, and the exiting pipe? I plan on 8ft entering, then 10ft exit and pop-

Asked by: Paverman
The grade of the drain pipes will vary with each install. We recommend minimum 1% slope for PVC pipe and 2% slope for corrugated pipes. 1% is about 1/8" of fall per foot of pipe and 2% about 1/4" of fall for every foot of pipe.

What kind of pipe do you use with this? It says 6" pipe, but the corrugated drain pipe is only 4".

Asked by: VRB
NDS has separate adapters outlets for 6" pipe (NDS part #1266). The outlet that comes with this box is for 3" & 4" pipe. Sewer and drain pipe (triple wall, SDR-35, etc), schedule 40, and corrugated pipe (single wall) all work with this outlet. Waterproof silicone can be used to create water tight connections between the outlet and box and also the outlet and pipes.

do you sell just the lid not the whole basin

I just need the lid,not the whole basin.
Asked by: JB
Yes. You can purchase a replacement grate from Home Depot: HD SKU # 214191. NDS also offers decorative grates for 12" catch basins.

6" corrugated pipe

So if I buy NDS part #1266 i can connect the 6" pipe directly to the basin box? Am I correct?
Asked by: RC
That is correct. Part 1266 allows you to connect 6" single wall corrugated pipe to the 12" catch basin.

What is the flow rate with one inch of water over the grate?

In order to select the most economical sizes and arrangement of catch basins, pipe and excavation, I need to know either gallons per minute or cubic feet per second that will flow through the grate and out the pipe with an inch of water depth above the grate. If the manufacturer's name was given, I could look up the technical data sheet.

CAN I DRIVE OVER THE LID

CAN AN AMBULANCE DRIVE OVER THE LID?
Asked by: LINDASD
This lid will be just fine if an ambulance only passes over the grate once. If the grate is installed in a location where the ambulance will be parking or frequently passing over, then it is recommended that a metal grate be used. NDS part # 1215 (galvanized steel) or 1213 (ductile iron) should be used for those applications.

can this basin be used as a 90 degree corner.

It appears as though there are knock outs on the other two sides that don't already have holes but I'm not sure.
Asked by: JoLo
The easiest thing to do would be to purchase either a 3 outlet catch basin (NDS part #1203) or a 4 outlet catch basin (1204). You would then get a plug (NDS part 1206) to cover the unused openings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Built Tough These are awesome. Drill some holes in the bottom so water doesn't sit in them and breed mosquitoes! Heavy Duty and easy to clean out!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heavy Duty This is a well-made product. I use it to collect the water from a gutter downspout. It is positioned against the house with one 4-inch flexible pipe attached and leading away from the foundation. There is a removable plug that gives the option of having two pipes attached or just one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked fine This was a replacement for one that had broken. It actually connected up with a 6" drain pipe and worked very well. I used some expanding foam around the connection to seal it.
