I am replacing the ballast in my home's kitchen. This appears to be the exact replacement (original is not GE#. I bought it and went home ready to install it, but the enclosed instructions state in bold baps, "FOR COMMECIAL USE ONLY. NOT FOR RESIDENTIAL (CONSUMER) USE."

So I'm very curious and concerned: Is this the correct ballast?

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install Ballast was easy to install and worked fine when power restored. Only time will tell how long it lasts. July 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great ballast so far. Wish there was one made in the USA. I bought a Hampton bay 4 tube t8 fixture that I liked quite a bit but it would never function perfectly. The light was on an automated system in my kitchen and even when it was turned off one bulb would glow slightly on one side. There was also a horrible hum from the unit but luckily my vaulted ceiling is ~15ft in this area so I didn't hear it so bad on the floor. I called Hampton bay (home depot) and they sent out another ballast. Unfortunately this ballast was as bad as the one that came with it. It would buzz, never completely turned off, and would chew up light bulbs like it was it's job. I liked the fixture enough that I kept it and bought this GE ballast to replace the junky one that came with the fixture. It worked immediately and turns off every bulb every time with no problems or glowing tubes. I haven't had to replace any bulbs since I installed this ballast. I am quite happy to have the fixture finally working properly so I would recommend this unit for anyone who needs a reliable and quiet ballast. March 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Replacing Ballasts These are as good as any - Ballasts either work or don't - these do. March 15, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Ballast Decent product. Yet not a long enough life. They want you to be environmentally friendly, etc. Yet these ballasts have a life of about 5-7 years. What good is that? So after you finish with it. You have to replace it every 5-7 years. I have some magnetic ones that are still going after 50+ years! You're not having to replace them every 5-7 years! All that plastic ending up in the landfills. They don't want you to recycle these so what other choice do you have? February 23, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent choice Used in a church facility. Easy to change. Worked excellent. November 3, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Just a Replacement Part That's a Tad Pricey It works for the exact replacement part needed. There are not many options other than LED which is out of this world expensive to replace a whole building's worth of 4ft. ballast's. It still seems expensive to replace just a ballast- but maybe that's just me. October 13, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Long Lasting Electronic Ballast The 120 to 277-volt electronic ballasts for 4-ft. 4-lamp T8 fixtures that I have installed in a small business have lasted at least ten years. They are very reliable. The extra one pays for the commercial grade avoids later replacement costs. The advantage of these electronic ballasts are: 1) Quiet operation (great for radio studios where noise is a major consideration) 2) Instant on operation 3) Lower heat generation (also great for radio studios where the thermal load on the HVAC is a major consideration) 4) Smaller size (makes installation easier) 5) Longer lifetime July 14, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Replacement for broken light I have 2 T-8 four bulb fluorescent lights in my garage. One stopped working. After determining the bulbs were fine and power was getting to the unit, I realized it was the ballast. I had only one choice at Home Depot if it was to fit in the old unit. It was easy to splice the wires and install the ballast. The only problem is that it has a slightly longer delay to turn the lights on than the other fluorescent light. I can live with it.
