Customer Questions & Answers

what does PAR38 mean?

In my recessed kitchen (can) lights, I currently use Sylvania 75W replacement Double Life halogen PAR30LN bulbs. Will this Philips bulb work instead?
Asked by: Beth
Hi Beth, I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. The number associated with the bulb is the size of the bulb as if measured with calipers, across the lens. A PAR30 bulb will measure 3¾'' across the lens and a PAR38 bulb measures 4¾'' across, or 1'' larger in diameter than the smaller bulb. If the larger lamp will clear the trim ring on the can light, the PAR38 could be used. Thank you for asking, -Travis

Customer Reviews

120W Equivalent Bright White PAR38 Dimmable LED Floodlight Bulb (E*) is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from much better than a new light fixture... My recently purchased home was built in the mid-1960s, and the recessed bathroom lights just weren't bright enough with CFLs. So I decided to try these because of their brightness and low thermal production. Boy was I happy with the results. While more expansive than CFLs, I didn't need to replace the fixtures. So I saved more in the end.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product but life expectancy not good. The light works great but do not last as advertised y have purchase them three times in the last 2 years.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Really Disappointed Is NOT an acceptable replacement for the "old" 120 W incandescent flood light bulbs. Light does NOT spread out like in the old incandescent bulbs … its bright but only over a small area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement for my existing CFLs. The light from this bulb was much brighter than the CFL it replaced, & came on instantly, all while using less electricity.
