Customer Questions & Answers

What is a cubic yard

What is a cubic yard
Asked by: Keith
One cubic yard would be 3ft high X3ft deep X3ft wide or 3'X3'X3'. If you buy a 1 cubic foot bag of let's say topsoil it would take 27 of them to make a cubic yard. 54 bags to make 2 cubic yards, 81 bags for 3 cu yd., etc. If you need a few yards it is much cheaper to pay for a little more quantity than you may need and have it delivered by a company like a gravel/soils pit that has a min. of 5 yards charge on deliveries than to buy two or three yards by the bag at a big box store. Example, $2 a bag for topsoil would cost you $54 plus tax a yard which is about twice what it would cost you to have it delivered.

Can you use this for grading project around the house?

Asked by: Rachel
If you are grading, you will want to use a cheaper fill. You can call most quarries and they will deliver sand fill (the cheapest clean grade) for about $250 for 16-18 cubic yards. In other words, you will get a lot more for less money. Topsoil should be reserved for the top portion of the lawn where you are planting things.

Is this garden grade soil; free of weeds?

Asked by: Laura
Topsoil is sourced locally and is native to the region. Products will have variation in color, particle size, and texture. Use top soil for filling in holes and patching bare spots on lawns, not recommended as planting soil.

14 cu. yd. Bulk Topsoil is rated 3.1 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Check where they are getting the soil Check and ask who they are getting the soil from because I didn't and I now have to figure out how to move sand that was mixed with dirt. This is not worth the money unless you truly know that you are getting top soil.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Landscaper said "best he's ever seen" We live in Fairfield county CT. I was immediately contact about delivering the soil and setting up a date which ended up being one day before promised on the web site. The driver was an expert at dumping the soil just where we wanted it. Best yet, it was so rich and beautiful. It smelled vaguely of farm. The landscaper we hired said it was the best he ever seen. The grass popped in just 6 days on this beautiful stuff.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mostly Clay, lots of paper and plastic in soil Im in the Atlanta area and the topsoil delivered was mostly clay and had a lot of contaminants. i was disappointed with the amount of paper, plastic and fabric that was torn up and scattered in the soil.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product - Great Customer Service We are in Atlanta and we ordered 10 cubic yards for our backyard to grade a 3 foot drop off. The Customer Service team called quickly after placing the order to schedule the appointment and were flexible to work with our schedule. The driver arrived per the agreed upon window and they dropped it off at the back part of our driveway which was an added bonus. The soil was clean and did the job. Would definitely recommend the product and make sure you have a good wheelbarrow!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Topsoil - terrible purchase We've considered asking for our money back. The topsoil isn't the same as in the picture and is mostly sand. It would have been easier to buy the individual bags. We purchased topsoil because we have a lot of sand around our house and wanted to build up thicker soil around the house (it didnt need to be good, just not sand). The soil delivered was exactly what we already have. There is so much sand in it! It's not top soil at all. We will go to the more expensive garden center down the road from now on.
