Customer Questions & Answers

Why does it say i need attic access to install? Can I install without Attic access?

I'm trying to replace an existing box that looks flimsy to install a fan.
Asked by: jayc52
This is a new construction box. It requires a support member above the box that you can run 4 screws into for support. If that is already there then you may get away without going into the attic. If the existing box is attached to the side of a joist then this box is not for you. I have used this box in old construction but I did go into the attic to add the support member required.

ceiling fan

I am remodeling a trailer and want to install a ceiling fan. The ceiling has 1x2 strips and no studs. What would I use to keep the fan solid?
Asked by: DIY63
You need to contact a local contractor and/or the trailer company for their recommendation for that application.

I need to install a box to hold a ceiling fan that weighs @ 40 lbs. Will I be able to exchange this box for the one that is already installed ?

Asked by: jmer61
The Saf-T-Box you are referring to can be installed in place of most standard 4 inch octagonal electrical boxes. This product, when properly installed, is rated for the support of ceiling fans up to 70 lbs, and light fixtures up to 150 lbs.

15.5 cu. in. Heavy Duty New Construction Ceiling Fan Saf-T-Box is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Safe secure fan mount I replaced 3 older ceiling fans with modern efficient Haiku fans. Haiku instructions specified the Westinghouse Saf-T-Box. I found two at Home Depot. Most places don't carry them, including HD's main rival and local hardware stores. When I tried to find a box for the third fan, HD didn't have any in the Kansas City area, despite the website saying they were in stock at several stores. The website was also inaccurate regarding the aisle and bin # for the first two boxes. (I advise calling first.) I got the third one by ordering online. Customer service waived the shipping fee ($6) after I explained my fruitless attempts to find the item at their stores. The box is excellent. It has 2 long posts inside which accept machine screws (provided) to affix the fan base to the box. The box must be securely attached to a ceiling joist or cross block with wood screws (provided). My fans are very quiet with no wobble using this arrangement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought five of these Before installing five ceiling fans I replaced the light-duty ceiling octagon boxes with these heavy-duty boxes. These boxes are thicker and the bracket mounting screws are #10's instead of #8's. Installation takes a little time but they offer peace of mind that the fans will stay where they belong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a box Well constructed with everything you need to install.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't include all necessary parts The box has provisions for five cable knockouts, one through the middle and two on each side. Although not designed to use all of the knockouts at once, the box only comes with one clamp that secures two cables on one side of the box. The description of the product states that it includes two clamps. If you're pulling more than two cables into the box you're out of luck. I was in contact with the quality control department at the manufacturer and they began to address the error, but once I told them I bought it from this store, they ceased communication.
