Thanks for your question. These can be used to create a patio. However, you may also consider using step stones or pavers to achieve a similar look. Look for these on HomeDepot.com in the Landscaping>Pavers and Step Stones section.

Thanks for your question. No, these blocks can be used to build the structural parts of the fireplace, however, fire bricks need to be used on the interior.

I'm looking for 8 x 8 x 4 h blocks and wonder how hard it is to split one of these into two squares. It seems like they'd be too thick to break cleanly.

Answer:
Thanks for your question. These blocks can be split with a hammer and masonry chisel, however the break will not be as smooth as a normal 8x8x4 block. The side of the break may have to be chiseled after breaking to achieve a flat surface.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Double-check your measurements! Beware - these actually measure 15.5" x 7.5" x 3.5". I purchased these to create a stable, level perimeter for several raised beds I'm building, and I'm glad I over-ordered because these will not cover quite as much area as I originally thought. If they were truly 16" long you would need 75 bricks for a 100' run; however, at 15.5" you will need just a couple more. Other than that these are solid, well-made, and I'm glad I got them. When I get done I hope my pecs and glutes stay well-toned!! June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good value We wanted to make a fire pit but all the above ground plans called for different landscaping stones that were to expensive. I finally found a plan for a below ground pit.. it called for lava rock on the bottom. I decided to use these 16x8x4 bricks for the base. These worked very nicely as I have also made a grate to in the pit to cook on. Having the bricks for the base makes a level steady surface for the grate to sit on. July 8, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Versatile These blocks are great for many different uses. They are quite heavy and may surprise you when you pick them up. Very uniform/consistent quality with a very nice appearance. I will be using these again. March 20, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by worked great I needed these blocks to support a shed, they worked perfectly for my needs. February 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Uses for concrete blocks These blocks are very versatile and easy to use. They can be used in a similar manner as pavers or retaining wall blocks but they are larger and are less expensive, thus more cost effective per square foot of use. Also, since they are plain concrete, they can be stained, which is very easy to do and not expensive. I stacked them, up to three high, for garden beds and stained them green. I laid them flat for a small patio and stained them brown. Turned them on edge and buried them slightly to line the boundary of my BBQ area. This maintains the separation of the BBQ area rocks and the adjacent walkway's crushed granite. Those blocks were also stained brown. Used this same configuration and color for washer pits. Yes, washer pits. For less than $40. It's a fun game that only takes one hand to play so your other hand can hold your beverage of choice. Lining the sides of a Bocce Ball court is next. July 8, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent durability and price I use these bricks for my pickup in the winter and also to keep my woodpile off the ground to prevent the wood from getting wet. They're very heavy at around 30lbs/brick and at only $1/brick they're economical. A 60lb sand bag runs about $5 and I can get 2 bricks for half the price and fit more in my truck. I have about 50 of them and use 30 for the bed of my truck and the other 20 for the woodpile. they'd also work well for building a shed or something of the sort. requires some know how but could be done. would be more stable and last longer than a prebuild steel or wood shed for sure and could be built bigger when you factored in the costs. Honstly I can't say enough good about these bricks. I've bounced them around in my truck in the winter and havn't had any break I have a 3/4 ton with aux. leafs and it's pretty stiff in the rear and they're pretty sturdy to have survived that beating. I've tried other bricks and they havn't held up well at all these are just excellent. you can't go wrong with them. August 8, 2010
