Delta would recommend a solution that requires a rough in with two groves while your further explanation specifies that you have only one. Typical Delta. And about that lifetime warranty, it will still cost you $85 to buy the parts. What on earth is the warranty for??
I must admit the Delta reps are super courteous but unfortunately they are reading from the same user manual that we consumers have.

I am peed off because I have the same problem and the solution with the new white and blue cartridge is a no good. It won't fit in the the old rough in. And no I will not install a Delta if I had to tear down two walls and go through a remodel just to change a cartridge.
BTW Delta, houses are built to last over 100 years. Mine is just 20 and Delta tells me that the plumbing that was installed to their own specs is obsolete and I have to redo the whole thing to meet their "newer" bells and whistles. Read Less

Answer:
Call Delta and they will help you determine the right part ....they changed parts in the 1700 series so you have to remove the face plate and see what color the controller housing is .....that determines which replacement part you need

Answer:
if i were you i would take the part off and take it into the store at you location to find out what is really necessary. I failed to do that and just went off the picture and i was left with the choice of either A) return it and ship another one to my home or B) make do with what i got. I chose B and it works fine but am weary that it might go out sometime soon.

When I got mines, I was a bit confused, but I placed them side by side and found the only difference on the part is that the gray top has two notches compared to one on the white. My pipe had only one notch hole and so I filed down the extra, used the new washers and spings in the packet to replace to old and I no longer have any problems.
Do not mix the old parts with the new. Replace the entire old one as I have found switching the cover/top (gray with white) will cause the water to leak from the handle. Once I filed down the extra plastic notch (very simple) and put in the new gray, all was well.
To say the least, my husband was proud of me, but it was so simple I had to admit just how easy it was to get it done. Read Less

Thanks for your question. You most likely need part number RP32104. This is a different cartridge for the 17 series shower, it has an all white body. I would recommend contacting our Consumer Support line. They will be able to help you identify which cartridge you need and be able to send you any additional repair parts. 800-345-DELTA.

Thank you for your question. We would be happy to help identify the right cartridge for you. Since we had more than one Scald Guard faucet, we will just need a little more information first. Please call 1-800-345-3358 or email customerservice@deltafaucet.com.

Answer:
Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. We most likely will not have the replacement as Delta may have discontinued the cartridge before now. Delta would be the best source to answer your question. Even if it's discontinued they may have something that's compatible tech wise. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. Thank you for shopping Home Depot.

Answer:
The inset with teeth just below the handle can be set to the hot or cold side to change the mix with the handle position. I use the water/calcium marks to determine my starting point and rotated to the hot side a little at a time until I got the right mixture and hottest setting I desired.

Answer:
you set the safety temperature flange on the cartridge to the hottest you would want the water to flow. Turn on the water all the way, let it warm up and then don't touch the valve when you're lathered up cause the only way it will move would be toward the COLD.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Poor The or one that came with the fauc leaked and this one does also August 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by EasytoOrderandInstall The video on Delta, com showed exactly how to remove the old and install the new cartridge. The order process at Home Depot was efficient and easy with quick delivery. May 24, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works with some modifications After extensive internet searching, I found what I thought was the correct replacement part for our shower water valve. The Delta site said it was the one for the 1700 series, so I found it on the Home Depot site which told me it was not available in the store, only online. I ordered it and waited and when it arrived, I removed the old one. The new Delta replacement part is keyed to go into the showers plumbing and be oriented with two triangular notches, one on each side. The original used a single square notch for a key. So I filed the square notch to fit plus another one on the opposite side so the valve would seat properly. The new valve came with new seals for the water connection in the rear but they too were not usable because the size and design were incorrect. I used the old rear seals. Delta's recommended replacement is not exactly like the original but I was able to make it work. April 12, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by High quality quick install Easy install and very high quality. Fixed the leaking shower March 15, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Product Had a little probleb In shutoff area of valve. Was able to correct it with some rework of that area. Valve seems a little overpriced. That said it did work in the end. February 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Great Product It is a great product for the actual cost. The problem is that, it is plastic and if tightened too tight, the threading will easily wear out. December 31, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by OK. But not great I would recommend this part - with reservations. My shower started leaking and I determined that it was the valve. The Delta website was only slightly helpful. I found what looked like my product, but the parts explosion showed and specified a valve the was significantly different from mine. I found what looked like the correct valve in another, similar product. So, since it seems there is only 2 choices for this particular product line, I ordered that valve. When the valve arrived, upon cursory inspection, It seemed to be the valve I needed. But the devil is in the details. After removing the old valve and comparing it to the new one, I found what appeared the be minor differences - particularly the O ring setup sealing the hot and cold source. But the really irritating difference was the fact that the new valve had 2 'nubs' on the seating ring. The old one only had one. And the shape was different. So I ended up 'modifying' the new one with my knife to make it seat properly. But it works. However, it did confirm my long standing prejudice against Delta. November 10, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Close, but not an exact match This cartridge was listed as the replacement for mine. We are DIYer's, so ordered it from Home Depot as they did have the best price on this part. It is "almost" the same, but not exactly. There is a small plastic piece that holds small o rings that is supposed to replace the old one, but, the old one on our unit does not come out, it's a fixed piece. We were able to work around it with a little creativity, and it works fine, but I don't know if someone with no experience would have been able to work it out. I should also state we are not "plumbers". Perhaps there was a secret to the whole thing we didn't know. Overall, it seems to be working fine and we no longer have a leak!! April 14, 2015
