Product Overview

Simpson Strong-Tie hurricane ties are designed to resist high winds and seismic forces by positively connecting trusses/rafters to the top of wall of the structure. These ties connect both solid-sawn and engineered lumber across a wide range of applications. Some hurricane tie models are available with additional corrosion resistance for exterior and treated-wood applications.

  • Great for connecting 2x deck joists on top of a perpendicular beam
  • Install in pairs on either side of the rafter/truss/joist to provide resistance to uplift and lateral forces
  • Use also for a variety of connections where one member crosses another
  • Made from 18-Gauge steel
  • Galvanized for extra corrosion resistance
  • Install with 10d x 1-1/2 in. nails

Customer Questions & Answers

How much uplift will it hold?

Asked by: eddie
Please see pg. 315 of the current Wood Construction Connectors catalog. The allowable load depends if it is a sloped condition or not, as well as the wood species being used. Thank you!

Can this be installed on the exterior?

I bought a bunch of these to hold down some pre engineered trusses. However, if installed on the interior wall, they overlap the trusses mending plate. Can I install this on the exterior instead? I tested it out and it fits. Ideas?
Asked by: HomeDepotCustomer
We actually show the H10A installed on the exterior in our catalog (note: a minimum 3 1/2" overhang is required). It is up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify if it is to be installed on the interior or exterior. For uplift Continuous Load Path, connections in the same area (i.e. truss to plate connector and plate to stud connector) must be on the same side of the wall. Please see current Simpson Strong-Tie Wood Construction Connectors catalog for compete details. Thank you!
