Joist hangers are designed to provide support underneath the joist, rafter or beam to provide a strong a connection. Simpson Strong-Tie offers a diverse line of hangers to handle almost any application with top flange, concealed flange and field skewable and slopeable options. The Hurricane Tie series features various configurations of wind and seismic ties for trusses and rafters.

  • Designed to provide a connection between trusses/rafters and the top plate of the wall to resist high-wind/seismic forces
  • Also suitable for connecting 2x deck joists on top of a perpendicular beam
  • Install in pairs on either side of the rafter/truss/joist to provide resistance to uplift and lateral forces
  • Use also for a variety of connections where one member crosses another
  • Made from 18-Gauge steel
  • Galvanized for extra corrosion resistance
  • Install with 10d x 1-1/2 in. nails

Can this be installed on the exterior?

I bought a bunch of these to hold down some pre engineered trusses. However, if installed on the interior wall, they overlap the trusses mending plate.

Can I install this on the exterior instead? I tested it out and it fits. Ideas?

Answer: 
We actually show the H10A installed on the exterior in our catalog (note: a minimum 3 1/2" overhang is required). It is up to the Designer/Engineer of Record to specify if it is to be installed on the interior or exterior. For uplift Continuous Load Path, connections in the same area (i.e. truss to plate connector and plate to stud connector) must be on the same side of the wall. Please see current Read More
