This unit is designed to be mounted vertically, through the ceiling, but Broan does make a similar unit designed for wall mounting. I have one in my kitchen.

Answer:
It could, however if you are thinking of mounting it between rooms in a wall, or even in an external wall, it would protrude further than the width of most walls.

Answer:
Yes. This it what it was engineered to do. A backdraft damper is built into it. Make sure you have an 8 inch tin tubing, some self tapping screws, a china cap, and a roof flashing if you plan to have it come out of your roof. Make sure to seal your flashing and china cap with Geo Cel when you're done with the roof/installion!

Answer:
Thank you for your question about this vertical discharge fan. The unit is specifically designed for the ceiling. If you mount this in the wall, the damper will not shut. If you need an 8" thru-the-wall fan, please review model 509 and 509S. If you have further questions and would like to speak with a Technical Support person, please dial 888-336-6151. Thanks, again.

Answer:
8" duct will do. If you want to cut it star shaped(in strips and then off set one bent in and then one bent out) you can make it work that way too. You can look up the manufacturer installation guide online with the model "505."

The fan itself has a plug for an attached outlet connected to a box supplied with the unit. From there it needs to be hard wired to your electrical supply.

No more lingering odors after certain people use the restroom. (Mostly me) I used my existing duct, and with a little mounting bracket modification, it was installed fairly easily. It is a bit louder than the old fan, but it has twice the RPM and much more power. I definitely recommend this unit.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Price is right. You get what you pay for. I went from a six inch fan to an eight inch fan. The price was right. It is louder than the previous fan, but it is larger too. Overall it meets my expectations, just don't plan on having an audible conversation in the room with it on.

It is however a bit noisy but can be ignored when in the other room. It did take an adapter to attach the fan to the vent hose also.
