Customer Questions & Answers

Is the tongue and groove on the 2 ft or 4 ft side?

Asked by: jules1333
The tongue and groove is on the long (48 inch) side

If the weight capacity is 75 pounds, does this mean that it isn't sturdy enough to walk on once it is installed in the attic space?

Asked by: TinLville
Personal opinion: I believe the 75 pound thing is for when the panel is supported on the 24 inch ends only and when it is supported via standard 16 or 24 inch joist spacing it is strong enough for both me and whatever loads I have put on it.. Once installed, the panels do not give or flex. I used construction glue and screws to attach it to the attic rafters for my use.

Customer Reviews

19/32 in. x 24 in. x 4 ft. OSB Attic Decking Board is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Installation We have purchased this attic decking for our last four homes. As a female, I personally have installed it in the last two attics. Who wants to buy a 4'x8' sheet of plywood and then have to cut it down to size to get up the attic stairs?! Having them already precut is well worth the bit of extra cost. The 2'x4' sheets makes it easy to haul up the attic stairs one or two at a time. The tongue and groove sides help hold the sheets together. If you need to cut out a portion to lay around wires, easy to do with a jig saw. I looked at the plastic ones on line but they were more expensive, hard to work with, and unforgiving when it came to working around wires, joists, etc. Plus picking the wood ones up in a store means you can easily get more or return the extra ones you don't need. Don't forget to pick up wood screws too when you get the boards!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic The opening to our unfinished attic is 17" x 30 " and is located at the top of a small closet in the back bedroom. As another reviewer mentioned, the small size of the precut pieces is a huge asset when you have to move them through a house and into the attic. Make sure you lookup the location of this item in your, local store before you get there. The help doesn't always know about this product and it isn't always stocked in the most obvious isle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy boards, easy to work with, fit easily through drop down attic staircase door Overall, good product and value considering these are cut to a size which can easily be brought up into the attic. Easy to install to ceiling joists. Only negative comment I have about these boards (which is not a big concern at all, overall, they did exactly what I needed them to do) is the tongue and groove feature on them doesn't exactly fit all that well from one board to the next (even with use of a rubber mallet). Good idea by manufacturer to cut these with this feature, however, in practicality, doesn't work all that well. Outside of this, great product to work with, cost effective, sturdy and saved me a lot of time sawing up plywood (I have the tools, just didn't feel like cutting boards to a size I could get up into attic area).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid & Convienent As the area available to get into the attic was small (one opening was 24x24 for the hall and the other was 24x52 for the garage) I bought twenty of these 24x48 tongue and groove panels to create an attic floor storage space for our house in Florida. The panels fit together at the joints as they should providing strong connections. To install the panels I used one inch screws to secure to the top of the ceiling/roof trusses as space allowed. After I was satisfied with the install, I rolled on a coat of Kilz white primer sealer to help to lighten up the area. I also purchased two models of the drop down 'Werner' attic ladders to access both attic areas.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Inexpensive flooring for your attic! Tongue and groove makes installation much easier. 2x4 size makes it easy to work with/maneuver. If ceiling joists are not exactly 24" on center you will be putting in a bunch of nailers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Attic boards Unfinished attic needed more flooring so we decided to get these vs. 8 foot boards then cutting in two. Only reason was because our larger vehicle was being worked on and we really wanted to get this done. Sure, it saved us some time by being able to use them right after unloading them but if you can use a circular saw and cut the larger boards yourself, you can save some $ especially if you need a fairly large quantity. Still, the product was good and all the boards were straight.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Simple to install They were simple to install and carry up into the attic. I used coarse drywall 1.5" screws. I did find that the OSB did fragment in spots, too bad it wasn't stronger, but sufficient for an underlayment attic installation.
