Questions & Answers

How often does it need water? Can I water the tree if the temperature is in the 20's?

Asked by: Kristine
Hi Kristine, I'm Travis from The Home Depot. Thanks for visiting our site. These Dwarf Alberta Spruce Trees are acclaimed for their dense, evergreen foliage and slow growth habit. They only require water when their soil begins to dry out. Because they grow slowly, they can remain in a relatively small container for many years. These containers require watering more often than trees that are planted in the ground. While these trees require little water in comparison to other plants, the soil should never be allowed to dry out. Proper hydration is critical and a dehydrated soil condition could lead to more severe damage due to cold exposure. Water the pot before the temperature drops and add water whenever necessary to prevent dehydration. Applying water slowly to a frozen pot will thaw the pot and allow for the moisture to penetrate. Of course, avoid applying the water to the surrounding areas during freezing temperatures. Thank you for asking, -Travis
