Substitute for cheap duct tape?

The normal gray duct tape only last for a while before it totally disintegrates. Is this the stuff pro-installers use instead? If not what do they use?

Answer:
I have used the tape for other uses especially where a water resistant adhesive is needed. It is more expensive. You might want to compare the price with Gorilla Tape.

Answer:
No, although quite versatile, this tape is not a substitute for duct tape. I think its best application is in keeping items like wire nuts free of moisture.

Answer:
No, there is no heating element in this tape. However, the tape material and adhesive should stand up to -30 temperatures if you want to use it to wrap a heating element to your pipes.

Answer:
I don't imagine that this in and of itself will prevent pipes from freezing at extreme temperatures. It is very thin for insulation purposes and probably doesn't have a very high degree of insulation, I would recommend using it on top of / in conjunction with a thicker insulation product underneath it.

I am certain it would stick but it will not work to seal a leak under pressure. If you are wrapping insulation it would work well to keep it in place.

It allowed me to insulate some outside pipes and tape up any seams. Tape is 20MIL thick, good tough and sticky, just what was needed. This is possibly my third roll in two years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fixed sewage leak I had a sewage pipe rust through under my house. The results were just as gross as you'd think. I needed a quick fix ( I wanted to let it dry up prior to doing the real fix). The tape was perfect and would probably last a year or two (but I wouldn't recommend that).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Good Pipe Tape, Weatherproof, Durable, Performs As Expected This is the first time I've used this product but I decided to give it a try because I planned to use it just as it was recommended to be used. I needed to secure conduit along areas of pressure sensitivity where it's outdoors and functioning as cold-flowing water drainage. So far, I'm very satisfied with the tape's durability, its ability to adhere to surface of pipe, and its effectiveness with providing support to areas of pipe where it's applied. I set the tape in the sun to generate some heat that would enhance the stickiness of the adhesive. The roll of tape was warm to the touch after nearly an hour in the sun and that seemed to have helped its application.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from TOUGH STUFF This is some tough stuff! At 20mil, it is a bit tough to streatch it. Find it works best when applied warm (set out in the sun). We've used it to secure wires to pipes in harsh, wet enviroments that you don't want a failure. Has performed well for years & expect it to do so for many more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Durable I wrap my refrig linesets with this 20mil tape because 10 years on a rooftop and it will still be solid and not brittle like the cheap 10mil. I purchase this stuff by the load and recommend it to anyone that wants their insulated pipes to stay insulated.
