Substitute for cheap duct tape?

The normal gray duct tape only last for a while before it totally disintegrates. Is this the stuff pro-installers use instead? If not what do they use?

Answer:
I have used the tape for other uses especially where a water resistant adhesive is needed. It is more expensive. You might want to compare the price with Gorilla Tape.

Answer:
No, although quite versatile, this tape is not a substitute for duct tape. I think its best application is in keeping items like wire nuts free of moisture.

Answer:
No, there is no heating element in this tape. However, the tape material and adhesive should stand up to -30 temperatures if you want to use it to wrap a heating element to your pipes.

Answer:
I don't imagine that this in and of itself will prevent pipes from freezing at extreme temperatures. It is very thin for insulation purposes and probably doesn't have a very high degree of insulation, I would recommend using it on top of / in conjunction with a thicker insulation product underneath it.

I am certain it would stick but it will not work to seal a leak under pressure. If you are wrapping insulation it would work well to keep it in place.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Super Durable I wrap my refrig linesets with this 20mil tape because 10 years on a rooftop and it will still be solid and not brittle like the cheap 10mil. I purchase this stuff by the load and recommend it to anyone that wants their insulated pipes to stay insulated. June 13, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Prevent Scuffs on Carbon Canoes/Kayaks I have carbon racing canoes and kayaks. They get scuffed badly by paddles. This is an easy, cheap, non-gooey way to protect expensive boats. See photo of THINK and Epic white boats with black tape. October 21, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Good Pipe Tape, Weatherproof, Durable, Performs As Expected This is the first time I've used this product but I decided to give it a try because I planned to use it just as it was recommended to be used. I needed to secure conduit along areas of pressure sensitivity where it's outdoors and functioning as cold-flowing water drainage. So far, I'm very satisfied with the tape's durability, its ability to adhere to surface of pipe, and its effectiveness with providing support to areas of pipe where it's applied. I set the tape in the sun to generate some heat that would enhance the stickiness of the adhesive. The roll of tape was warm to the touch after nearly an hour in the sun and that seemed to have helped its application. September 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by this tape sticks If you want something that works then use this !! ( Its stick ) April 8, 2013
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by would use again Should carry it in more stores and the product works very well December 15, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works just fine I like that this is adhesive enough and has some thickness to it. I used it to wrap around the foam insulation for the pipe on my A/C unit outdoors. I wanted to make the foam more resistant to sun rot and add a bit more insulation to it and this did the trick. I also used it to temporarily seal a vent that is intended for a range hood. We are 'remodeling' (in stages) and it is currently not attached to a hood or blower, so I installed a flapper to close off the duct and taped around it using this tape to help keep the hot air and bugs out of the house. It isn't ideal, but it definitely helps keep the outside stuff out and the inside, cooler air in. June 17, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent Product Works great for protecting A/C line set insulation from the sun as well as PVC pipe. July 28, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by A Good Store Experience 20 mil wrap tape is used to wrap scotch coat gas line where it joins galvanized pipe fittings. The tape seals out moisture preventing rust from forming and causing the joints to disintegrate over time. The material should be used where pipe wrenches or other tools may have mared the coating on the pipe. May 7, 2015
