I'm in the process of replacing these brackets in two rooms because they are unsuitable for mounting ceiling fans.

I purchased this to install ceiling lighting that was not next to a joist. The installation was easy, however when i went to install the light itself the screws that came with every light i purchased were to small for the holes. I then noticed that the holes were not grooved for screws but smooth. Highly disappointed, I instead had to buy screws that were larger and could make their own grooves to support the lighting. These were the cheapest and for good reason. If you look at the next expensive fiberglass boxes all of them have grooves and smaller holes for installing light fixtures.

I wanted to position a chandelier that was centered for the room, and found there was not a ceiling joist at that location. This saved me the trouble of cutting a wooden frame for a regular light box and seems to hold the chandelier just fine. The instructions on the little 5"x5" sheet of paper that included a cutting template were a little odd and unnecessary. All in all, I'm pretty content.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by jbreitmun Great reinforcement to ceiling box!
I used this to hang a pendant light that had some weight to it. I did not trust the old ceiling box that was just nailed to the joist so I removed it and replaced it with this adjustable, arm reinforced ceiling box. Relatively easy to install if you have attic access as I do. The hardest part of the job was moving around insulation in the attic to perform said task.

As diy bob stated normal hardware ie screws that come with a light fixture do not fit which means another trip to the hardware store
