Answer:
Hi hobbes,
Most fans, including this one, are self-sealed, and cannot be oiled.
In fact, it's about as much replacing it by the time/money you spent on repairing it.
If you still have the receipt, I'd recommend to return it to the Home Depot store nearest to you (even if it was an online purchase).

20 in. High-Velocity Oscillating Pedestal Fan is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 54.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Fan Been running this fan pretty much 24/7 for about 9 years now and it finally died. I will say you need to keep it pretty clean or you will lose a lot of air flow. Gonna order another

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Fan is NOT "all metal". Plastic parts strip easily. Overall fan is decent. Still running great. BUT... fan is advertised as ALL METAL. This is sneaky because while the important FAN assembly parts may be metal, the important functioning parts of the PEDESTAL are PLASTIC and don't look like they are gonna last super long. The tilting, rotating assembly in particular is stripped now and only sits in full tilt back by balancing it in a "jury rigged" orientation. POOR CHOICE OF MATERIALS USED IN THIS IMPORTANT PART OF DESIGN. Rotating still works, however. Also, The telescoping up down feature ALSO uses a cheap plastic ring to hold it in place. Be prepared for it to slip over time and use. I expect it to break soon as someone will try to over tighten it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from too loud!!!! I scoffed when other people said they returned this fan bc it was too loud. But it is!!!! We wanted it on our patio to blow away mosquitos and smoke from the grill but even on low it has a high pitched LOUD noise. Maybe due to narrow shape of blades. Very annoying and hard to carry a conversation at the table. Blows a lot of air, looks good and easy to assemble. Bummer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cooler Breezes We have been looking for a large oscillating pedestal fan for some time and could not find what we wanted until we did an inventory check with Home Depot. We purchased it immediately on line and picked up it at the store. Exactly what we needed. We wanted something that would move a great deal of air across a wide arc on our beautiful patio for two reasons: the cooling effect and to dissuade mosquitos from ruining our sitting outside. (Mosquitoes do not like any sort of significant breeze and will stay away from the direct air flow of a fan.) We have accomplished both aims with the 20 in. High Velocity Oscillating Pedestal Fan. Thank you very much. Dr. Carl W. Grubbs

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Just obnoxiously LOUD! I can't stress enough how loud this fan is. Not just loud, but high pitched like a model airplane. It garnered a second star because of the quality of motor and volume of air it moves.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Fan Ever! This fan is awesome it gives a lot air making my bed room ultra cool. It's loud but that's what I wanted, it drowns out any sound even my wife's snoring!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks great and works great! Everything is great about this fan the only downfall is that its loud(even on low). But it has to be loud for the air thats it moving. LOVE the industrial look! Husband installed it so it must not be hard...lol j/k. Very easy process from ordering to installing and good price!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Outrageously Loud Fan We wanted something powerful to use on our sun porch. It's definitely powerful but when reviewers warn about it being noisy they're not kidding. I would equate it to a small plane taking off. The lowest setting is so loud you can't hold a conversation over it. We tried moving it 20 feet away and it was still noticeably loud. I could hear it from inside the house... I really really wanted to love this fan but we want to be able to have parties on the back porch and you just can't talk over this fan. Returning for something quieter. :( Would be great in a garage or somewhere that noise doesn't matter.
